Summary

Devil Fruits are the cornerstone of theOne Piecepower system, and their existence within the series allows for some of the whackiest and most incredible superpowers ever seen in anime or manga. From powerful fruits that allow the user to shake the very foundations of the Earth itself to barely useful ones that just serve to make normal animals slightly smarter than before, Devil Fruits come in all shapes, sizes, and properties.

One such Devil Fruit inOne Pieceis the Jiki Jiki no Mi, which is in the possession of the formidable Eustass Kid, a terrifying pirate on the High Seas. Introduced inthe Saobody Archipelago arcat the same time that Luffy and his crew arrived there, Eustass continually proved to be a valuable ally to the Straw Hats, especially due to the powerful nature of his Jiki Jiki no Mi Devil Fruit!

Story Arc

Saobody Archipelago Arc

First seen as a brash youth, he was the hotheaded captain of the Kid Pirates who were notorious in the South Blue, while also being one of the 12 pirates known as the ‘Worst Generation’. He was introduced in the Saobody Archipelago arc that saw the meeting of the 11 Supernovas, a group of pirates who had congregated on that island and each had a bounty of 100,000,000 Berries.

If you’re not prepared to fight, you won’t win!

Kid was a ruthless cutthroat who even became a temporary ally to the Straw Hats at different points in the story, though he was someone who never really cared about civilian casualties. He was so ruthless that he believed he was showing gratitude to anyone whom he chose not to immediately kill. He eventually made another appearance inthe Wano Country arcand has been popping up in the story now and then.

Powers

Magnetism

The biggest contributing factor to what makes Eustass Kid such a formidable threat for anyone to go up against is his Jiki Jiki no Mi Devil Fruit, which gives him the powers of magnetism. This fruit not only gives him the power to control magnetic forces but also manipulate metal to a substantial degree.

Its appearance is quite striking, as the fruit consists of tiny and round silver spheres that almost look metallic themselves, which are wrapped around by ayellow-colored vine like a cluster of grapes. Each silver sphere has a jagged protrusion coming from it resembling a lightning bolt, very similar to the stem of the fruit, which also takes the shape of a yellow lightning bolt.

The Strengths of the Jiki Jiki no Mi

Using the Devil Fruits' inherent powers of magnetism, the user can attract or repel metallic bodies to or from themselves as much as they want. This is an extremely useful ability against most of the weapons that exist inOne Piece, as swords and canon balls just repel off of them. By using repulsion, Kid can repel these weapons right back in the direction of his enemies or use attraction to disarm them.

A really useful ability that this Devil Fruit gives is that it lets Kid use the force of attraction on himself to move towards massive metal bodies such as ships, which lets him safely travel over the seas by essentially flying over the water. Eustass Kid can also manipulate metal to a great extent, as he uses his magnetism to conjoin different pieces of metal into many shapes or weapons.

The Weaknesses of the Jiki Jiki no Mi

The overall strength of this Devil Fruit is quite formidable, even at the highest tiers of power in the series. However, much of its combat utility is dependent on how much metal there is in any given area, especially when it comes to creating bigger and stronger mechanisms from those pieces. This drawback was seen in the Onigashima Raid, where Kid had to run around for quite a while to gather enough metal for theeventual clash against Kaidoand Big Mom.

Another setback of this Devil Fruit is the fact that the strength of the magnetic forces acting upon the metal is contingent on the current state of the user, as the magnetic forces will be far weaker if the user is strained or has taken sufficient damage. Other than this, the common weaknesses synonymous with all Devil Fruits are present with the Jiki Jiki no Mi as well.

Just like with other Devil Fruits, theJiki Jiki no Mi can undergo an awakening, further bolstering its already impressive power to be even greater. When awakened, the user of this fruit can assign a polarity to living things and objects that aren’t metal, essentially turning them into magnets and manipulating them as such with the Devil Fruit’s magnetism powers.
