Summary

One Pieceanime is nearing the end of the Wano Country arc. The arc started airing in 2019, and it will finish with over a hundred episodes. The Straw Hats went to Wano in hopes of crushing Kaido and his Beasts Pirates.

The heroes were joined by several other characters who helped them take down the Yonko and his henchmen. While the plot of the arc is excellent, the duels in Wano are nothing to be scoffed at either. However, there is still a disparity in the quality of the fights, with some being better than the rest.

roger vs oden one piece

Updated on July 12, 2025, by Suzail Ahmad:The Wano Country had plenty of outstanding fights. Eiichiro Oda knew that he had to give attention to many characters, and many fans doubted whether he could pull it off. However, the One Piece author showed that he was more than capable of doing it.

One of the best things about the fights in the Wano was the variations. Some of them were long and lasted for several episodes, while otherswrapped up in just under a minute. However, all fights in the Wano Country arc were impactful.

roger vs oden one piece

22Oden vs Roger

Winner: Roger

Oden vs. Roger is one of the shortest fights in One Piece. The two behemoths clashed against each other more than two decades ago. The fight took place on an island where the Roger Pirates had docked. The Whitebeard Pirates had stopped on the other side of the island. When Oden learned of their presence, he wasted no time rushing toward them.

Rayleigh and Gabban had taken positions, and they were ready to stop the samurai. However, Roger wanted to face Oden. The Pirate King used Divine Departure to send Oden flying. For all his strength, Oden was unable to harm Roger. This fight proved that Oden was nowhere near Roger in terms of power.

yamato vs ace

21Scabbards vs Ryokugyu

Winner: Scabbards

Admiral Ryokugyu made his proper debut in the Wano Country arc. Previously, fans had seen his silhouette but never his complete face. The Admiral traveled to Wano, hoping to capture Monkey D. Luffy and hand him over to Sakazuki.

However, Ryokugyu was stopped by the Momonosuke and the Scabbards. They knew that Luffy could handle the Admiral, but they wanted to handle the situation on their own. The group wanted to prove that it was more than capable of handling any problem. They even refused to take Yamato’s help, which shows their determination.

Marco from One Piece

20Ace vs Yamato

Winner: None

The fight between Ace and Yamato was not fueled by malice, but it still made for a phenomenal watch. Like all fights in the Wano Country arc, this one had stellar animation. Ace fought Yamato using his Mera Mera no Mi. The Logia-type Devil Fruit gave him a big advantage, but Yamato wasn’t deterred by it.

An experienced fighter herself, Yamato knew how to make things even. As previously stated, the fight’s purpose was to make Yamato grow as a person. Kaido had mistreated her since childhood, so she felt chained. Ace’s goal was to help her break free from the shackles and enjoy freedom. After an intense battle, the message finally got through to Yamato.

Franky vs Sasaki in Wano

19Marco vs. King and Queen

Marco made his much-awaited return in the Wano Country arc. His first major contribution was sending the members of the Big Mom Pirates down the waterfall. Marco played a crucial role in the war in Onigashima, where he used his blue flames to protect his allies from Queen’s Ice Oni Virus.

Furthermore, Marco was engaged in a grueling battle with both King and Queen at the same time. While the odds were definitely in the favor of the two All-Stars, Marco somehow managed to stall them until Zoro and Sanji were ready to take their place.

Kozuki Oden cuts Kaido

18Franky vs. Sasaki

Winner: Franky

Franky is the shipwright of the Straw Hat Pirates, so it is his job to take care of the Thousand Sunny. Aside from being a shipwright, Franky is also a capable fighter who has taken down many notable opponents, like Senor Pink and Fukurou.

However, his biggest test came in the Wano Country arc, where he had to fight Sasaki, who was one of the Tobiroppo. Sasaki possessed the Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Triceratops, which significantly enhanced his physical abilities. But his Devil Fruit couldn’t help him beat Franky. The latter used General Franky as a decoy and finished Sasaski off with Radical Beam.

Featured Strongest Alliance One Piece Big Mom Kaido

17Oden vs. Kaido

Winner: Kaido

Before Kozuki Oden became the daimyo of Kuri, it was a lawless land filled with bandits and other kinds of criminals. Oden used his strength to subdue them and turned Kuri into a better place. Oden also journeyed with the Whitebeard and Roger Pirates, so he knew the true history of the world.

Upon returning from his voyage, Oden found Wano under the rule of Kaido and Orochi. Oden wanted to resolve things without violence, so he agreed to their conditions. However, when he learned about their betrayal, he was outraged and went to confront Kaido. Kaido used his Devil Fruit to try and crush Oden, but the latter was just too strong. Oden gave him a massive scar on the torso, leaving Kaido in complete disarray. Unfortunately, Oden couldn’t finish the fight as he was distracted by a Kurozumi clan member. This gave Kaido a massive opportunity to attack and beat Oden.

One Piece Roronoa Zoro Nigiri Toro Samon Niitoryu Basil Hawkins Wano

16Big Mom vs. Kaido

After being humiliated by the Straw Hat Pirates in the Whole Cake Island arc, Big Mom followed them all the way to Wano. Fans already know that Big Mom is unable to distinguish between friend and foe when she is enraged. So, anyone who tried to get in her way had to face her wrath.

In Wano, Big Mom has the opportunity to compete with her former comrade, Kaido. Normally, the two Yonko didn’t get the opportunity to go all out in a fight. So, this was a welcome change. The exchange between them gave fans a good idea of how powerful they really were. The fight lasted for three days, but there was no winner.

Roronoa Zoro using Onigiri against Kamazou

15Roronoa Zoro vs. Basil Hawkins

Another interesting fight in Wano saw Zoro take on Basik Hawkins. Since Hawkins was working for Kaido, it was his responsibility to stop Zoro and Luffy from causing problems. Most fans assumed that Zoro would stomp Hawkins, but that wasn’t the case.

Hawkins used his Wara Wara no Mi to try and stop Zoro. The latter was able to stand his ground and prevent Hawkins from completing his mission. There was no clear winner, but it is safe to say that Zoro was the more impressive of the two.

Whitebeard Roger clashing on an island

14Roronoa Zoro vs. Killer

Zoro was involved in an exhilarating battle with Killer early on in the arc. Both of them were members of the Worst Generation, which only added to the hype of the battle. Despite the fact that neither of them were at full power, the fight was still pretty good.

Both of them traded a few blows before deciding to unleash their final attacks. However, Zoro and Killer were unable to attain victory as they both were knocked out. In the manga, the fight wasn’t as good, but the anime made it seem like a great battle.

13Whitebeard vs. Roger

Whitebeard and Roger are two of the greatest pirates in the history of One Piece. They were considered the crème de la crème of the old era. Both Roger and Whitebeard were blessed with a great deal of power.

However, fans had never seen them fight. This changed in the Wano Country arc. The fight took place in Oden’s flashback, who at the time was sailing with the Whitebeard Pirates. The duel between Roger and Whitebeard was long, but neither of them were able to win.
