Therehave been several theorieswritten about the Disney+ series and how they may tie into the events set to occur inDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Now that the Multiverse has been opened, asWhat If…?is beginning to explore, there are an infinite number of possibilities that are possible. What If…?also proves that to have a convincing and meaningful storyline, there has to be a proper motive. One fan may have solved what that motive is and how it connectsWandaVisionandLoki.

Reddit user Dragon_EGamingrecalls that all the technology the TVA uses to keep the sacred timeline intact was created by He Who Remains. Everyone at the TVA is convinced they are upholding the beliefs of the timekeepers, who Loki and Sylvie unveil as mindless beings serving someone else’s purpose. It’s later learned that this person is He Who Remains, but only Loki and Sylvie know this.

Kang from Loki

A previousWandaVisionandLokitheoryvisually showed how Loki and Sylvie’s meeting with He Who Remains syncs up withWandaVision. It suggests that Loki and Sylvie’s meeting occurs at the same time Wanda is draining Agatha of her magic and transforming into the Scarlet Witch. By doing so, Wanda becomes a Nexus being and creates a Nexus event that branches from the sacred timeline. As shown throughoutLoki, the TVA is meant to protect the timeline and prune those that cause these dangerous events in order to keep the timeline intact.

Unlike the pruning of other beings who have caused Nexus events, if the TVA had attempted to prune Wanda, they would have run into a few issues. As a Nexus being, Wandawould’ve been too powerfulfor them to prune and eliminate. The only way they would have successfully been able to eliminate her is by pruning her with her own consent. Wanda’s willingness and ability to eliminate herself would have been enough to satisfy the TVA. With the emotional turmoil Wanda experienced, including the loss of her sons and husband, it’s possible that if she had been apprehended, she would’ve contemplated being pruned. AsWandaVisionreminded viewers, Wanda has suffered a great deal of trauma in her life and rarely talked about it with anyone. Now that Vision is no longer with her (with the exception of the mind stone that lived within them both), the guilt may have been too much to bear.

The theory proposes that He Who Remains is behind all of it, including Wanda’s transformation into the Scarlet Witch. He Who Remains knows all there is to know about time. Because he knows what the future will bring, he can act (or prepare) accordingly. When someone powerful enough to change the future arises, He Who Remains cannot predict it. This tells him that he will be defeated. The moment Wanda becomes the Scarlet Witch, she becomes powerful enough to rewrite He Who Remains' future. This is the “threshold” he tells Loki and Sylvie they have crossed.

There is evidence to support this portion of the theory. Since her debut in the post credits ofCaptain America: The Winter Soldier, or officially inAvengers: Age of Ultron, many have argued thatWanda is the strongest Avenger. What Wanda accomplishes in both Infinity War andEndgameis further proof of Wanda’s strength as she learns more about her powers. The most recent proof of Wanda’s growing abilities isWandaVision, where she unknowingly creates what is referred to as The Hex out of grief.

Because of her power, the theory notes that Wanda is capable of creating a probability hex. A probability hex is capable of manipulating the chance of a set of outcomes. While this is a power Wanda has possessed on her own, it is something that becomes amplified once she drains Agatha of her magic in the finale ofWandaVision. With He Who Remains' power and knowledge that he will soon be defeated, the theory proposes that he prepared and accepted this outcome. Knowing he could not do anything to alter Wanda’s capabilities, he began to plan his defeat and how to come out on top.

In his talk with Sylvie and Loki, He Who Remains tells them the story ofthe Multiversal warhe helped put an end to. Because of what he accomplished, he became the overseer of the sacred timeline and kept his other variants at bay. The theory insists that by He Who Remains' paradox, Kang Prime (a variant of He Who Remains) will end the Multiversal war Sylvie has now started once again. If He Who Remains' prophecy holds true and Kang does manage to end the war, then he would once again be at the top as He Who Remains.

There is evidence that already supports this. IntheLokifinale, Loki is pushed away from Sylvie and He Who Remains, and is knocked into the TVA. Loki runs to tell Mobius what has happened, only to have neither Mobius nor Hunter B-15 know who he is. The final image is Loki gazing out at a statue of Kang the Conqueror.

Doctor Strange will have his hands full with all that has happened and will continue to happen prior to the release of theDoctor Strange sequel.Spider-Man: No Way Homeis expected to continue to set up the complexities of the Multiverse. Should this theory and He Who Remains' logic hold true, it may not be aMarvelhero on the top, but Kang once again.
