Early on inOmori, shortly after meetingOmori’s friends in the playground and learning to save, the flower crown-wearing Basil disappears. The search for him makes up most of the player’s journey.
The first place the game sends the player to look is Otherworld, a tourist stop for space travelers. There’s plenty to explore here, but one oddity is the frozen lake to the east.Alongside a fishing spotand a unique store, there’s an empty igloo, with a locked trapdoor and a mechanical fish that needs batteries.

As many players might guess, the fish, the batteries, and the trapdoor are all connected. That being said, players shouldn’t worry too hard about this spot when they first arrive. They’ll only be able to use itnear the end ofOmori’s long journey, and only on an alternate route. Given that, this article will have mild spoilers.
Omori’s Alternate Route
Players' time inOmoriis split between two phases. There’s the time in the dream world, where they play as Omori, and there’s the time in reality, where they play Omori’s real-life counterpart, Sunny.
The route split happens during the waking periods. If the player greets Kel at the door and explores Faraway town, then they’re set on the standard route, also known as the Sunny route. If they Ignore Kel, and stay inside each time, they end up on the Hikikomori route, also known as the Omori route.
The batteries can only be found in the Hikikomori route. The dead batteries players find during both routes are completely unrelated.
Finding The Batteries
Players first need to progress through the story until the “One Day Left” chapter. Once there, they have to return to Otherworld, and visit the house of Capt. Spaceboy. At the top of the stairs, his father Pinkbeard is waiting, and talking to him will start a cutscene that ends with the player getting batteries.
From there, the player needs to put the batteries into the fish, and it’ll start singing in a voice eerily similar toAnimal Crossing’s K.K. Slider. Once the song ends, the trapdoor will open up. Beneath the trapdoor, players can find the letter “G” for the hangman game and a portal to an optional area called Snowglobe Mountain.
Snowglobe Mountain is an expansive area with multiple unique NPCs and hidden objects. The highlight is a revamped boss battle with Capt. Spaceboy, now named Space Ex-Husband, at the mountain’s peak.
Omoriis available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
