Since the disaster that wasCyberpunk 2077’s launch in December 2020, the otherwise stellar reputation of its developer has taken quite a hit, but business is continuing as usual. With a newThe Witchergame having been announced recently andCD Projekt Red making the move to Unreal Engine 5, fans of the series are excited about what’s to come, even if many of them are on tenterhooks these days. However, while pretty much everyone is referring to the next installment asThe Witcher 4, it turns out that that’s actually a bit of a misnomer.

According to a recent tweet from the studio’s PR Director, Radek Grabowski, the newWitchergame will not necessarily bear the number four after its title. As well as announcing that the upcoming entry will not be exclusive to one specific storefront, it will also not be calledThe Witcher 4. What it will be called, they do not say, and much like the announcement of the game itself, the tweet is not forthcoming with any further details about what the new project will entail in terms of its story, characters, or game mechanics.

Instead, it seems as though the nextWitchertitle will be a new sagain the series and that its development will be led byGwent: The Witcher Card Gamedirector Jason Slama. Given these details, it’s entirely possible that the new game may not involve the antics of one Geralt of Rivia. However, seeing as he is the eponymous character of the franchise, from the books to the games to the TV adaptation, it would be difficult for many to imagine aWitcherentry without the long-haired protagonist. At this moment, all anyone can really do is speculate until official word comes from the studio about further details.

The third game is consideredone of the best RPG titles ever, according to Metacritic, and as such, fans have been anticipating a fourth game since the phenomenal success of 2015’sTheWitcher 3: Wild Hunt. Of course, alongside that, many will no doubt be wary of the game’s development, marketing, and eventual release, given the initial launch of the studio’s open-world sci-fi game.

With the developer also saying thatCyberpunk 2077DLC is on the way, it seems CD Projekt Red is actively busy moving forward. With the new game in theWitcherseries now confirmed and the team working diligently to fixCyberpunk, there’s a chance that the company’s reputation could be restored as time moves on.
