New character designs for the Straw Hat Pirate crew were revealed for the upcomingOne Piece Film: Red. The designs were shown during Shueisha’s Jump Festa ‘22 event on Sunday.
The new designs paint the Star Hats in a much more festive light, with characters likeBrook, Franky, and Usopplooking very different from their usual selves.

A written message from series creator Eiichiro Oda was featured during the event. Oda told fans to be on the lookout for Luffy in the next year, teasing some mysteriesrevolving around Shanks.
One Piece Film: Redwas first announced in November, commemorating theOne Pieceanime’s 1000th episode release. Oda will serve as a producer and supervisor on the film. As signified by the scar on the film’s logo, Shanks will play a big role in the upcoming feature. The leader of the Red Hair Pirates has not been prominent in the series narrative for several years, andFilm: Redlooks to be his big return.
The film will introduce a new female character, and though nothing is known about her yet, her design seems to indicate that she has a connection to theSky Island Residents. The girl has a mysterious connection to Shanks, and Oda claimed that he conceived the character to serve as a departure from the older male characters featured in the last few films.
The movie will be directed by Goro Taniguchi, and Kuroiwa Tsutomu will return as scriptwriter. Taniguchi first worked on the series as the director for the 1998 OVA,One Piece: Defeat The Pirate Ganzackbut is best known for his work on theGundamfranchise as well asCode Geass. Tsutomu returns to the series after having worked on the screenplay for 2016’sOne Piece Film: Goldand theHeart of GoldTV special tie-in.
Eiichiro Oda’sOne Piecedebuted in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1997. The story of Monkey D. Luffy and the rest of his Straw Hat Pirates’ journey tofind the eponymous One Piecehas inspired a variety of related media, including games, films, and an equally long-running anime adaptation.
Viz Media publishes the manga in English, while the anime is streamed on Funimation and Crunchyroll. Netflix recently revealed the cast for their upcoming live-action adaptation of the series, and the cast was recently featured ina video addressing Jump Festaattendants.
