Apart from it being one of the most popular battle royale games currently available, one thing gamers are aware of aboutFortniteis its crossovers with a vast range of other media products. From the latest heroes to feature in Marvel movies to a potential lot ofDragon Ball Zskins,Fortnitehas seen plenty of characters from popular IPs hopping into the battle bus to try and get a victory royale. However, not every piece of media must have itsFortnitecrossover, and it seemsThe Last of Usmight be one of the games that will not see its characters join the battle royale.

WithThe Last of Us Part 1coming to fans in September, there has been a lot of news around the title and the franchise as a whole lately. Some of this information has been controversial, as fans hotly debateThe Last of Us Part 1’sprice tagand whether its improvements mark enough of a change from the original 2013 title. Among the news and speculation onThe Last of Us Part 1, a rumor began to develop that Joel and Ellie would be coming toFortnitealongside the remake’s release.

However, thanks to Co-President ofNaughty Dog Neil Druckmann, it appears that there may be no truth to these rumors after all. On his Twitter page, Druckmann responded to one fan who has since deleted their tweet about Joel and Ellie becoming playable characters inFortnite. “Love me someFortnite,” Druckmann began, “but there are no plans for this. False rumor.” This seemingly confirms that at least for now,The Last of Us Part 1will not be crossing over withFortnite.

The response to Druckmann’s tweet was quite mixed on social media. Some fans were saddened to hear that Joel and Ellie wouldn’t be playable in the battle royale, while others were relieved, believing that the two characters wouldn’t exactly fit the colorful and more upbeat atmosphereFortniteprovides. There were also those that joked that theFortnitegameplay would be better than that ofThe Last of Us Part 1as the remake recently released a new gameplay trailer showing off what fans could expect.

However, some have found that there hasn’t been enough of an update between the originalThe Last of Usand its remaster. Some believe that this means the original title was incredibly impressive, while others are pointing to Naughty Dog’sThe Last of Us Part 1and calling it a cash grab. While the title remains shrouded in a fair amount of controversy, many are waiting untilThe Last of Us Part 1releases to confirm their thoughts.

The Last of Us Part 1releases September 2 for PS5 and will release on a later date for PC.
