Apple TV Plusannounced a new spinoff for the hit comedy seriesMythic Quest.The new series, titledMere Mortals,will be an eight-episode companion toMythic Quest,exploring the universe and characters of the original show.

Created by Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day, and Megan Ganz,Mythic Questis a workplace comedy series set in and around a fictional video game studio. The series is currently in its third season and has already been renewed for a fourth season atApple TV Plus.

Per Apple TV Plus' press release,Mere Mortalswill explore the lives of employees, players, and fans impacted by the fictionalMythic Questgame. The new extension series is inspired by the popular departure episodes ofMythic Quest, including last year’s critically acclaimed episode"Backstory!“and season one’s Emmy-nominated “A Dark Quiet Death.“According to Apple TV Plus, this Friday’s upcoming episode will also be a standalone episode in the same vein.Mere Mortalswill be written byMythic Queststar Ashly Burch, John Howell Harris, and Katie McElhenney. Ganz, McElhenney, David Hornsby, Day, Nick Frenkel, Michael Rotenberg, Jason Altman, and Margaret Boykin will serve as executive producers.

Mythic Queststars McElhenney as Ian Grimm, the egotistic creative director of the titular video gameMythic Quest.The series also stars Burch as Rachel, a former video game tester forMythic Quest,Charlotte Nicdao as Poppy Li, the lead engineer and co-creative director ofMythic Quest, Hornsby as David Brittlesbee, the executive producer ofMythic Quest, Jessie Ennis as Jo, David’s tyrannical assistant, Imani Hakim as Dana, a game tester, andCommunitystar Danny Pudias Brad Bakshi, the former head of monetization forMythic Quest.White Lotusactor F. Murray Abraham also previously starred as head writer CW Longbottom. Abraham departed from the series after season 2 for undisclosed reasons.

A spinoff companion series forMythic Questshould come as no surprise, as the series is one of Apple TV’s most popular shows. The previous “departure episodes” have also been hailed as some ofMythic Quest’sbest episodes, so it makes sense that the streamer would want to pursue more. Apple TV Plus has been steadily growing its selection of comedy series, including the massivelypopular award-winning seriesTed Lasso,which is set to premiere its third season sometime in 2023.
