Dark Soulsis a franchise that inspired a genre of “Souls-Like” games. What FromSoftware created with the challenging, and immersive action-roleplaying game is nothing short of legendary. WithDark Soulsentering its due rest, for bigger, bolder titles such asElden Ring, fans might reminisce on the game’s many aspects.

armor of thorns

One aspect of theDark Soulsseries is the armor sets. Some fans regard the game as “Fashion Souls,” meaning they prioritize the look of their character, rather than the stats and benefits of certain armor pieces. In theDark Soulstrilogy, there are countlessimpractical weapons. There were bound to be some armor pieces that were silly, goofy, or downright ridiculous.

11Armor Of Thorns

After being invaded, and defeating Longfinger Kirk in the Cathedral inDark Souls 3, players will be able to find the armor set in Rosaria’s Bed Chamber. The description does the set justice, since “Even the simplest act of rolling can damage enemies when wearing this attire.” This is a rather good gimmick for the armor.

However, to look at it practically; it’s covered in thorns, making it hard to put on without pricking yourself. Through rolling, the sharp points would also be dented. It’s best to justhave a spiky shield.

big hat logan

10Logan’s Big Hat

Perhaps one of the most impractical headpieces of the series, the Big Hat, dropped by Logan after completing his lengthy quest inDark Souls, is an item of luxury and an introvert. The item reads “Famously antisocial, Logan used it to block out noise and people’s stares.” If players don’t want conversation, or just want to sport a very big hat, this is perfect.

This hat makes no lie and will cover the character’s entire body, making the timing of essential rolls almost impossible due to the lack of clear vision from the player. It’s best to leave this on the hat rack.

Jester’s Set

9Jester’s Set

One of the more quirky sets inDark Souls 2, the Jester’s Set can be obtained through purchase at Iron Keep. Fans ofDark Souls 2adore the set for its silliness, and even the item states this as “A nice bit of fun to try on…” It is also the attire of the famousDark Souls 2NPC Summon, Jester Thomas, who is greatly overpowered in his pyromancy.

silver knight helm

Despite the benefits of reduced fall damage, backstab immunity, higher drop rate, and increased souls, the set is still in its simplest form, a jester outfit, making it impractical for sword fights.

8Silver Knight Helm

Upon first inspection, the Silver Knights at Anor Londo seem rather intimidating and present a unique cool factor to the game. Their size and armor are impressive, not to mention shiny. However, if players were to defeat the spear-wielding Silver Knight in Anor Londo, the treasure chest reward may disappoint them upon equipping said reward.

Once the headpiece is equipped, players will notice that their character’s head is rather jarringly squished into the helmet. It looks like a shiny, silver dry noodle, as it stands so thin and tall upon the character’s head.

Antiquated Skirt

7Antiquated Skirt

After saving the Dusk of Oolacile in the Darkroot Basin inDark Souls, players might stumble upon a pretty prize. The Antiquated Set is notable for its ivory color and silk texture, and if players wish to feel pretty, then they can choose to wear the dress and skirt.

The biggest problem with the Antiquated Skirt is that it offers no damage protection, and should not be worn in battle. After all, something of such stature should not be torn by the swords and hands of Hollows. To add to its impracticality, it would be rather easy to trip over the dress whilst rolling.

smough and ornstein

6Smough’s Set

There are no words that can do justice to Smough’s set, which is obtainable afterdefeating Ornsteinfirst, and then Smough. In size alone, this armor is a behemoth task to put on. It offers great protection, but looks rather silly, and will have players fat-rolling until the end of their character’s days.

If fans choose to use the Smough Leggings, they’ll find themselves sporting rather large thighs. The headpiece is so long, that there are eye holes for humans on the neckpiece, rather than the head itself. The intricate design of metal plated feet is also an oddity and another reason why this armor should remain in the closet, or kill Smough first for the fashionable Ornstein set.

5Artorias’ Leggings

Artorias is aDark Soulslegend, both asa character and a boss design. His armor is intimidating and has just the right amount of edge thatDark Soulsdeserves. His torn blue cloak, and silver armor, make for a fierce knight that you wouldn’t want to cross. Once players obtain the set after the boss fight and purchase it from Domhnall of Zena, they might find themselves greatly disappointed.

It seems that Artorias has skipped leg day far too many times. Despite the rest of the armor looking good, the leggings are rather distracting on how thin they are. It makes the character’s proportions seem off, and the impracticality comes from essentially going into battle with skinny jeans.

4The Catarina Set

Dark Souls 3features a graphical upgrade to the Catarina Set first seen inDark Souls.Dark Souls 3features Siegward of Catarina wearing the armor. Even the item description states it is “Often ridiculed for its onion-like shape.” It’s impractical due to its weight, which will have players fat-rolling galore. Even if it can take hits like they’re nothing, it isn’t worth the weight, nor the onion confusion.

If players wish to wear this oversized onion, then they can progress through the Cathedral of the Deep and purchase it fromUnbreakable Patches. Or, they can continue with Siegward’s quest, and receive it upon completion of the long adventure with a loveable sort.

3Chester’s Set

The item description for Chester’s Set is described as “A man of mystery lost in the past.” Many fans of the series speculate that Chester hails from theBloodborneuniverse. This is due to his appearance, and the mention of time travel. Chester’s armor wouldn’t be so impractical if he was indeed in Yarnham, but in Lordran, it is not good enough.

As stylish as Chester’s Set is, it is far too impractical for proper use. It bolsters almost no defense capabilities and is reserved specifically to look rather dapper. As fancy as one might look in this set, it’s not worth making dying even easier than what it is inDark Souls.

2Loincloth

There are three ways in which players can get the loincloth inDark Souls 3. The first is to start as the Deprived class. The second can be found by the Statue of Velka at the Undead Settlement, and the third, in the Ringed City DLC. The item is described as “Undergarments combined with an overlayer, the former never intended for public display.” The team at FromSoft is having fun with this piece and is telling players to not wear it.

Nevertheless, players do wear the loincloth. Most famously, “Let Me Solo Her” wears it in his famous battles against Elden Ring’s Malenia. The undergarments serve no practical or efficient use other than adding to the challenge of lacking armor and exposing the character as being caught in his underwear.
