Resident Evil Village, the most recent game in the series, is one of the most graphically enhanced games in the franchise thus far. With good graphics, characters, and a grim story, there are bound to be several death sequences that make players' stomachs turn. Not only are some core character deaths hard to watch, but seeing through Ethan Winters' eyes as these creatures brutally murder him can make the most hardened player wince.

8Elena Burns Alive

To many players, Elena’s death felt unnecessary.Resident Evil Villagewas rumored to have multiple playable characters, with Elena likely being one of them. That feature was evidently scrapped in the final product, which resulted in an anticlimactic character death that, truly, was never meant to be.

That said, Elena’s death is still brutal in nature, no matter how players feel about it. After running back onto a burning, wooden platform when her father, who had started to turn into one of the ferocious Lycans, called her name, it becomes clear that her decision to run to his side will be the last she ever makes. The frail platform begins to crumble, and she painstakingly tells Ethan to go before the platform gives way, and Elena falls into the roaring flames.

7Mother Miranda

Mother Miranda’sfinal death sequence, although beautifully animated, isn’t the most gruesome death as far as gore goes. After Ethan lands his final blow, Mother Miranda writhes about, spitting up blood before she calcifies and draws her last breath.

Even though her death itself isn’t a gory mess of guts and blood, Mother Miranda puts up a bloody, hard fight for players, both skilled and novice. Her raving screams about her daughter, Eva, whom she sought to bring back to life by infecting Ethan’s infant daughter, Rose, with the megamycete are haunting right up to the very end.

6Donna Beneviento

House Beneviento is already the stuff of nightmares, with a giant deformed fetus and creepy murderous dolls stalking Ethan around every dark corner. Donna Beneviento’s death is both sad and grim, with her first and only words that were spoken through herself (rather than her doll, Angie), “don’t leave, I can’t let you,” implying that she truly wished to spare Ethan from Mother Miranda and the other Lords.

After finding Angie in her life-or-death game of Hide n' Seek, Ethan stabs her with scissors repeatedly until the illusion finally fades, and it’s revealed that he had been stabbing Donna herself the whole time, ultimately killing her.

5Karl Heisenberg

Heisenberg had one of the coolest final transformations of the four Lords. His power lies in magnetism, so for his final transformation, he turned himself into an amalgamation of heavily armored mechanical parts equipped with saws and other deadly machines. The boss fight was unique and challenging with a fittingly brutal death sequence.

After landing the final blow, Heisenberg (still in his gigantic metal form) staggers back, ruminating about his plans to ultimately betray and kill Mother Miranda. Then, his mass of mechanical parts explodes in a mess of metal and fire, finally killing the sadistic, power-hungry fourth Lord.

4Ethan Winters' Sacrifice

Ethan’s against-all-odds survival inResident Evil 7had fans rooting for him living throughoutResident Evil Village. After defeating Mother Miranda, it becomes apparent that the beloved protagonist won’t be living to see his precious daughter grow up.

In an act of sacrifice, Ethan hands off Rose toChris Redfield. He snatches the detonator from Chris and says goodbye to Rose one last time before charging back towards where he killed Mother Miranda, setting off the bomb that would destroy the megamycete and the village once and for all. A secret ending sequence shows ateenage Rose visiting Ethan’s grave, solidifying that the protagonist is really dead.

3Eaten By The Mutant Baby

The mutant fetus that roams the halls of the Beneviento House is already mortifying as it is. Its swollen, black eyes, large mouth, and creepily human baby sounds are enough to give players chills as they’re carefully turning each dark corner.

If the player is caught by the deformed fetus, they’re in for an ugly, gruesome death sequence. The baby laughs gleefully as it pulls Ethan into its large, toothless, drooling mouth by the legs, slowly swallowing him alive. While the death sequence plays, players can hear the baby childishly comment, “yummy.”

2Moreau

Out of the four Lords,Moreau felt like one that players could almost empathize with. His overwhelming insecurity in both his appearance and his service to Mother Miranda almost makes players feel guilty for taking the piece of Rose that he guards. Don’t feel too guilty; he’ll make players pay for taking back the flask that would lose him the respect of Mother Miranda.

His final mutated form is a large, grotesque beast with eyes clustered on his back. The appearance of his final form is enough to make players gag, but his death sequence is even more horrific. After landing the final blow, Moreau begins to inflate with the acid he once attacked with. He howls in pain, crying out for Mother Miranda until, finally, his suffering ends in an explosion of acid and guts.

1Crushed By Urias' Hammer

Urias is one of the first boss fights the player must endure. Although it’s not the most difficult boss fight in the game, seeing as it’s one of the first, Urias is brutal and ruthless in his goal to kill Ethan. Urias wields a giant hammer, which isunlike any of the other Lycans,as they don’t usually wield anything at all.

If the player dies to Urias, he repeatedly beats Ethan to death with his large, heavy hammer. Striking once, twice, and again, repeatedly crushing his torso into a puddle of broken bones and blood. The death sequence is one of the first to be encountered, and seeing through Ethan’s eyes as he’s bludgeoned to death by this massive werewolf is stomach-turning.
