It’s been confirmed by NetherRealm Studios thatMortal Kombat 1will have Casey Edwards as the composer for its soundtrack. The game will let players experience the events of an alternate universe created by Liu Kang. Additionally, the game will have a new mechanic called Kameo Fighters in which NPC Kombatants can appear to assist a player. This was announced on the game’s Twitter page and by Edwards himself. The official announcement states that the development team can’t wait to hear his “Killer Kuts.” Meanwhile, Edwards expressed being beyond thrilled about his contributions to theMortal Kombat 1original soundtrack before talking about having grown up with theMortal Kombatfranchise from the days of the SNES. He also stated that he’s working “alongside a small team of very talented composers” while telling players that they can listen to the composer’s music at the Cage Mansion arena.
As for Casey Edwards' portfolio, the artist is known for creating music for a lot of productions. Edwards has produced the music forThe Division: Agent Origins,Killer Instinct, andDevil May Cry 5and its Special Edition. However, the composer has also produced music for TV series and movie shorts such asSpider-Man: Cake Day,Zombie Bullfighter, andRocketJump: The Show. The composer brought memorable tracks to multiple games with one of his most beloved songs being thetheme of one of theDevil May Cry 5’s characters. Players should be hyped about Edwards' inclusion as the producer has succeeded in the projects he’s been involved in.
Mortal Kombat 1’s interesting story and mechanics seem to be in line to impress players. Unfortunately, there have been some minor absences that have quelled some of the positive reception this entry in the series had, such as the cutting of the Krypt. Still, the ample variety of Kombatants and the DLC characters that are looking to bring more crossover material to the table is sure to help make up for some of the absences in both the game’s roster and gameplay modes.
