Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1will actually consist of five games instead of the three that were previously confirmed. TheMetal Gearfranchise has been dormant since the failure that wasMetal Gear Survive, but Konami is looking to bring it back in a big way. Konami was a significant presence at the recent PlayStation Showcase, where it used the opportunity to announce the comeback for theMetal Gear Solidfranchise.

TheMetal Gear Solidfranchise is first making a comeback throughMetal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, a full-blownMetal Gear Solid 3remakethat’s in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X. It’s unclear exactly how longMetal Gear Solidfans will have to wait forMetal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, but they will be able to revisit some other classicMetal Gear Solidseries games in the meantime.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1was announcedalongsideMetal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eaterat the PlayStation Showcase. At first, it was only confirmed that theMetal Gear Solidcollection would feature the originalMetal Gear Solidgame,Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, andMetal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. However, it’s now been confirmed through the collection’s PlayStation Store listing that the originalMetal Geargame andMetal Gear 2: Solid Snakewill also be part of the package. This means thatMetal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1will effectively feature five games instead of three.

Metal Gear Solid Collection Games List

Metal Gear Solidfans will no doubt appreciate the opportunity to revisit the classic games on modern platforms, though Konami has yet to clarify exactly which platforms the collection will be available on. While it’s been suggested thatMetal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1will be a multi-platform release, the only console we know it’s coming to for sure is PlayStation 5. Hopefully more information on that front comes sooner rather than later.

While someMetal Gearfans may have preferred a brand-new entry in the series, others will be happy to see that Konami is finally bringing theMetal Gear Solidfranchise back through this collection and theSnake Eaterremake. If these games are popular enough, perhaps they could lead to a proper renaissance forMetal Gearthat sees a completely original game produced eventually, though some may be concerned about what such a project might look like without the involvement offranchise creator Hideo Kojima.
