One of the most beloved video game franchises of the seventh generation was BioWare’sMass Effect, with the original trilogy of games earning widespread critical acclaim at the time of their release. Considering this, it’s not surprising that fans are excited to return to theoriginalMass Effectgameswith the upcomingMass Effect: Legendary Edition, and now it seems as though they only have a couple more months to wait, if a new leak is accurate.
It appears as though theMass Effect: Legendary Editionrelease date is Friday, March 12. This is according to multiple retailers that have leaked the release date online, plus Eurogamer, which stated that it understands the leakedMass Effect: Legendary Editionrelease date to “currently be accurate.” It’s possible that plans could change, though, so fans should take this information with a grain of salt until an official release date announcement comes from BioWare or EA.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, for the uninitiated, is a remastered collection of the first threeMass Effectgames for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. It will basically be the same that fans remember, but with improved visuals, the DLC included, andMass Effect 3’s multiplayer mode likely removed.
What’s interesting about the upcomingMass Effect: Legendary Editionis that the game does not have aproper PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X releaseplanned. Like many other titles, there will be some benefits to playingMass Effect: Legendary Editionon PS5 or Xbox Series X, but for one reason or another, a true next-gen version doesn’t exist. Perhaps one will be released at some point down the line, but since both the PS5 and Xbox Series X are backward compatible anyway, fans will still be able to play the game on their new consoles.
In the meantime, someMass Effectfans may be more interested in what’s next for the franchise. BioWare has teased anewMass Effectgamethat’s in active development, with many veterans of the franchise returning to work on the new entry. So far, very little is known about the newMass Effect, though the teaser trailer seems to suggest that it stars Liara T’Soni and will more directly deal with the events of the original trilogy and Commander Shepard thanAndromedadid.
ButMass Effect: Andromedaisn’t necessarily being abandoned just because BioWare appears to be takingMass Effectback to its roots. BioWare could very well follow up on some ofMass Effect: Andromeda’s lingering questionsin the newMass Effectgame as well, so fans will need to standby for more concrete information.
