Summary

Baldur’s Gate 3has rolled back and reissued its most recent hotfix. Larian Studios is hard at work issuing hotfixes for dozens if not hundreds of issues that have cropped up sinceBaldur’s Gate 3’s launch. Millions of players experimenting withBaldur’s Gate 3’s complex gameplay systems can result in unforeseen issues, after all. But the latestBaldur’s Gate 3hotfix may have been rushed a bit too fast, leading to Larian having to pull it and reissue it for corrections.

Hotfix #4 forBaldur’s Gate 3was issued less than 24 hours ago. Like those prior, the hotfix addressed a diverse selection of bugs and balance issues that players had discovered. For example, there was a bug that made players stuck when they took a Long Rest, because their companions wouldn’t wake up. Another issue resulted inBaldur’s Gate 3players losing their resources at the end of Act II. The hotfix wasn’t necessarily pressing, but it was still significant.

Larian then rolled back the release of the latest hotfix, reversing to theHotfix #3 version ofBaldur’s Gate 3. The cited reason for the rollback is that the hotfixed build ofBaldur’s Gate 3was causing crashes. After nearly 24 hours of the hotfix being rolled back, Larian then reissued Hotfix #4 without the issues that were causing crashes.

While the hotfix was rolled back,Baldur’s Gate 3players that played on the Hotfix #4 version of the game and saved were not able to access their saves. Basically, Hotfix #4 saves wouldn’t work on Hotfix #3Baldur’s Gate 3. Those players were told to wait until Hotfix #4 is redeployed to load their saves again. Now that the hotfix has been reissued, there should be no problem with saves anymore. All players should be fine loading up and playing their game.

It would be fair to say that Larian is playing a little hot and loose with hotfixes forBaldur’s Gate 3. There’s a lot to do, and Larian has some quickly approaching deadlines. For example, thePS5 version ofBaldur’s Gate 3is September 6 and Larian is planning to release a major patch before then. Larian says that It’s changing the way it deploys updates going forward to ensure this doesn’t happen again.

While the situation may have been frustrating for someBaldur’s Gate 3players, at least Larian is being transparent and communicative about theBaldur’s Gate 3issue.Baldur’s Gate 3is being reviewed like it’s one of the best gamesever made, but it does have a significant amount of bugs. Hopefully, Larian follows through and future hotfixes are tested a bit more robustly.
