The MatrixandJohn Wickare both action-packed franchises that elevated the genre to new levels. Coincidentally, they’re both led by the same actor, Keanu Reeves. This inevitably leads to the question of who would win in a fight: Neo, the Kung Fu-knowing reality bender, or John Wick, master assassin? The debate has now been settled forever by the only person who could possibly know the truth: Reeves himself.
Speaking aboutBill & Ted Face the Musicco-star Alex Winteron a recent episode ofThe Late Show, Reeves was asked who he thought would win by host Stephen Colbert. Slapping his hands together because he’s clearly prepared for this question, Keanu replied “well number 1, they wouldn’t fight.” Colbert pressed the actor for a more definitive answer, suggesting “what if Neo accidentally killed John Wick’s dog?” But Reeves held firm replying “maybe John Wick would help Thomas Anderson out in the real world, against the machines” and lo, a potential crossover was born.

The full interview hasAlex and Keanu talking about how they met at the audition forBill & Ted’s Excellent Adventureand became friends before being cast in the iconic roles as well as promoting the upcoming long awaited sequelBill & Ted Face the Music. When asked if they hang out together in the real world, both Reeves and Winter confirmed they do and mention people’s reactions when they’re seen together, “Bill and Ted bring smiles to the world” Reeves exclaimed. Talking about the long wait between the previous film,Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journeyreleased in 1991, and the upcoming sequel, Reeves credited the swell of fan support for convincing execs that there was still an audience for the time traveling friends.
At the end of the interview Stephen Colbert mentions thatKeanu Reeves is in Berlin shooting the upcoming revival ofThe Matrixfranchisewhich is expected to premiere in April 2022. And next yearJohn Wick: Chapters 4 and 5will be taking a leaf out of theThe Matrixsequels by shooting back to back withChapter 4also being released in 2022 so though they’ll never really fight, Neo and John will least go toe to toe at the box office.
