The Continentalwas announced before the release ofJohn Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum, with Lionsgate ultimately deciding on the approach presented by Greg Coolidge, Kirk Ward, and Shawn Simmons by following a young Winston’s rise to power in the 1970s. Since then, the series has added actors Colin Woodell and Mel Gibson for the lead roles, with Ayomide Adegun set to play a younger version ofthe late Lance Reddick’s Charon.

In an exclusive interview byColliderwithJohn Wickproducer Erica Lee, the former explained that part ofThe Continental’s appeal comes from “learning about the hotels and the Easter eggs” that help shine onthe inner workings of the High Tableand perhaps even John’s childhood. Lee admits that some pitches forThe Continentalexplored continuing with an alternate timeline. However, the chosen approach will allow fans to learn more about the iconic hotels, such as “What is the staff like? How do you get intoThe Continental? How are the gold coins made?”

Despite its ambitious nature,The Continentalwill only be three episodes long. Each entry will run for 90 minutes when the show eventually releases later this year on Peackock’s streaming service in the United States or Amazon Prime Video in the rest of the world.
