The upcomingDC’s League of Super-Petsanimated movie just got a lot more super, with John Krasinski sharing the first image of the character he’s voicing: Superman. Krasinski’s involvement was announced back in June along with many other cast members, but it wasn’t clear who his character would be.

The new movie is based on the Legion of Super-Pets superhero team that originally appeared inDC Comicsin 1962, with Superman’s dog Krypto leading the gang.Dwayne Johnson was announced to voice Kryptoback in May. The cast also includes Keanu Reeves, Diego Luna, Natasha Lyonne, Kate McKinnon, and Vanessa Bayer. Kevin Hart will be playing Ace the Bat-Hound and Marc Maron will be voicing Superman’s worst enemy, Lex Luthor. With Krasinski’s tweeted picture yesterday, Johnson’s Krypto now has his Superman.

In his Tweet, Krasinski said, “Always wanted to do a buddy movie with The Rock. Well, these are the roles we were born to play!” The image shared features Superman flying alongside his best friend Krypto the dog, who has his tongue joyfully lolling out of his mouth, suggesting the kind of buddy-comedy duo they’ll be. It comes after Johnson shared thefirstDC’s League of Super-Petsteaserin June, a clip in which a red-caped Krypto is shown soaring around to the familiar Superman theme tune by John Williams. The costume Krasinksi’s Superman is wearing looks very similar to the one seen in the Max Fleischer cartoons from the 1940s, particularly the Superman symbol.

This is not the only DC movie The Rock will be starring in next year, withBlack Adamalso slated for release in 2022. WhileBlack Adam is a villainous turn for Johnson,Super-Petsputs him right back in the familiar comedic hero role, which he plays very well. Krasinski, too, has more than proven his comedy-chops inThe Office USwhile also moving towards big blockbuster releases like spy thriller seriesJack Ryan. This is his first foray into superhero movies (barring a cameo as the “silhouetted gamer” in this year’sFree Guy).Aside from who’s voicing the main roster of superhero pets, there have been no other announcements about what other roles the star-studded cast will be taking up so far, with many fans excited to see who Keanu Reeves will be playing in particular.

The movieis written and co-directed by Jared Stern, who also scribedThe LEGOBatmanMovie. Sam Levine, who previously helmed episodes ofRobot and Monsterand also provided story material for Disney’sWreck-It Ralph, will be co-directing with Stern. So fans can be sure of a solid movie from the experienced team, even if it does constitute a directional debut for both, along with a very exciting cast.

Super-Petswill fly into theaters in Spring 2022, a year that is already looking like a bumper cinematic one for DC fans. Films from the DC universe slated for release next year includeThe Batman,The Flash,Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, andBlack Adam.
