Wednesdaystar Jenna Ortega has joked about Lady Gaga joining the cast of the Netflix series after one of the singer’s songs became associated with a viral dance craze. Ortega stated that she thinks Wednesday and Lady Gaga would be friends.
Wednesdaywas a huge hit forNetflix, but there was one scene in particular that everyone was talking about: The Rave’N. There, Wednesday performed a dance that quickly overtook the internet as many tried to imitate it. TheWednesdaydance trend used one of Lady Gaga’s songs, and it wasn’t long before the singer joined in on the action.

Varietycaught up with Ortega at the Golden Globes, and a reporter asked what role Ortega would want Lady Gaga to play inWednesday. Ortega referenced Christina Ricci’s role as Marilyn Thornhill and the odd camaraderie the two shared. Ortega then said, “If Lady Gaga were to be a part, [she and Wednesday] would have to be two monsters that understand each other.”
Ortega previously revealed that theWednesdaydancewas inspired by several sources. She watched clips of goths dancing in the club during the ’80s and various artists dancing, though she could not pinpoint one sole source of inspiration. Lady Gaga’s addition to the scene is thanks to TikTok. While the song Wednesday is dancing to in the original scene is “Goo Goo Muck” by The Cramps, TikTok added in a sped-up version of Lady Gaga’s “Bloody Mary..”
With theWednesdayseason 2 renewal by Netflix, it’s time to start thinking about who might join the hit series. Though it’s unlikely that Lady Gaga would join on a full-time basis, she has been branching out into acting more as of late, so perhaps a cameo isn’t out of the question. A small role could be a fun little nod to the fandom, though it might prove distracting from the narrative.
Ortega’s comment does point out something thatWednesdayseason 2 must address after its season 1 finale. Ortega expressed that Thornhill was something of a mentor for Wednesday, but Thornhill is now either dead or imprisoned (most likely the latter) after her plot was unveiled. Wednesday’s other mentors, Dr. Kinbott (Riki Lindhome) and Principal Weems (Gwendoline Christie) are likewise dead (or so the audience is told). That means that there’s a niche that must be filled in the series. The question is, who will fill it?
