A report indicates that controversialYouTubefigure and prizefighter Jake Paul offered Tommy Fury a $2.5 million contract to box. The possibility of a Jake Paul and Tommy Fury fight has been ongoing for over a year now. First set to meet in December 2021, Fury pulled out of a match with theYouTubecelebrity due to an infection and broken rib. A second planned match in August 2022 was also canceled, this time due to Fury’s visa status. Paul, it seems, still wants the match to happen very badly. The Paul and Fury feud exploded ahead of an event in August 2021. Fury was set to box Anthony Taylor, whilePaul was preparing to fight Tyron Woodley. The two had an argument on social media that broke down into obscene insults involving each fighter’s loved ones. Fury reignited the feud in November 2022 after Paul’s defeat of Anderson Silva, but Paul says that he won’t “risk” doing the event himself. Instead, he wants Fury to do an event in England for their match. And he’s willing to put money behind the endeavor.RELATED:Jake Paul is Being Sued for Over $100 MillionThis past week Frank Warren,Tommy Fury’s promoter, said that he believed a deal wasn’t “far off” as both sides remained eager to make it happen. Follow-up reporting from Wade Plem claims that a source confirmed that Fury was offered a contract for $2.5 million to fight Jake Paul. This contract was said to be $500,000 over what Paul had previously offered Fury.
Paul has since commented on the report, saying that while he’s unable to confirm or deny it, he can say that Tommy Fury “is never going to see the kind of money he is being offered to step in the ring with me.” Paul then added that Fury is “still on the run,” reiterating comments from a video he’d posted earlier in the day.
It’s unclear how much of what’s happening in the public eye is a “work” manufactured as a type of public relations to grab attention and how much is accurate to the business at hand. What’s clear is that a deal hasn’t been done.Jake Paulthinks the fight is well worth it, while Fury has made clear he’s not as invested in the actual fight as he is in the attention the possibility of a fight brings to his brand.
As much as Jake Paul and fans around the world want the fight with Fury, Paul isn’t going to wait around much longer. The YouTuber recently signed a contract with PFL MMA and has offered up a two-fight deal toNate Diaz, one boxing match and one MMA match. Paul also has his sights on another boxing match with ex-UFC fighter Mike Perry, which could occur as soon as February. Fury or no Fury, there’s a lot of exciting Jake Paul fight action coming in 2023.
