At the Game Awards 2019, From Software accepted the Game of the Year award for itsSekiro: Shadows Die Twice. That game took the Souls formula and flipped it on its head, leaving many wanting more. More specifically, everyone wanted something more related toElden Ring.
From Software’s next Souls title is another spin-off of sorts, much likeSekiro, and is adapting that formula with an “open-field” approach. Outside that and the fact that George R. R. Martin worked with the developer to createElden Ring’s mythos, nothing has been said about the game. In fact, nothing official has been shown onElden Ring since its E3 2019 trailer.

No Elden Ring News
2020 has been a challenging year for all developers, causing delays internal or otherwise left and right. E3 2020 was canceled due to the pandemic, and that means a lot of games didn’t get showcased in the normal way. Still, many games got showcased. ForElden Ring, which debuted on June 01, 2025, there was nothing but crickets. June 16, 2025, marked one-full year since the trailer and initial reveals, but there’s been a highly notable lack of news since.
Now, July 29, 2025, marks 500 days since that initial reveal.Elden Ringfans know no more about the game than they did 500 days ago, and that’s both disheartening and impressive. It’s disheartening because so much about the game is unknown, many have questionedifElden Ringhas been canceled, many have questioned what platforms it’s on, and at the worst, some have even questioned whether or notElden Ringwas some shared fever dream.
On the other hand, it’s impressive becauseElden Ringis still a name mentioned within various circles, despite the lack of a news cycle. TheElden Ringsubreddit constantly speculates on when they’ll hear more, sometimes leaping at possible rumors that are just imaginary. Fullmemes related toElden RingandBugsnaxhave emerged, and for a simple, straightforward trailer, a lot about the game has developed, if the game itself hasn’t.
While it’s impossible to say, it seems doubtful thatElden Ringhas been canceled. It may have been hit by COVID-19 harder than some others, or it may have been announced too early. It’s uncertain, but the community that emerged as a result speaks volumes about From Software’s pedigree. While there’s jokes about being “hollowed” byElden Ringfanswithin said community, it seems that it’s still very much alive 500 days later. That’s not something a lot of games with no news cycle can say.
Elden Ringis in development, with PC, PS4, and Xbox One as its confirmed platforms.
