Summary

Invinciblecreator Robert Kirkman confirmed that a pivotal change will come for the show’s upcoming second season - the titular character Invincible/Mark Grayson will win a fight or two this go-round.

UnlikeAmazon PrimeVideo’sInvincibleseason 1, where Mark would consistently get pummeled by the opposition, this time,Invincibleseason 2 will change its coursea bit when Mark gets into a brawl. According to Kirkman, he’s going to win a few fights for a change. Better yet, there’s going to be more to Mark winning fights than simply gaining the upper hand.

While talking withCollider, Kirkman gave the full details about how things will change for Mark inInvincibleseason 2. “There’s a lot to it. A lot of people joke about how Invincible hasn’t won a fight yet. It’s a superhero show, we’ve had the first season. He’s never really definitively won an actual conflict, which I think is awesome,” Kirkman said. “And so we’re going to see him actually start winning in Season 2. Maybe not always. And maybe, in some ways, a win is a loss.”

Despite that Invincible lost a lot more fights than he won, the show made it a point in season 1 that the fights he got in, whether he won or lost, ultimately led to something potentially much worse down the line. For example, his influence on the failed Mars expedition led to Sequids taking over the Martians, which the show then demonstrated would have dire consequences. The same thing happened when Mark helped Titan remove Machine Head as a crime lord. While he technically put a criminal behind bars, his actions let Titan take the mantle, thus not stopping any crime at all. Not to mention that fight nearly killed him.

As Kirkman said, Mark winning fights may also lead to the same fate, but it may be about the impact winning has on Mark more than anything. He survived a total beatdown from both Battle Beast and Omni-Man, so he’s been through it all. Winning fights may turn him arrogant, which may hurt the people he’s protecting more than he’s helping them.Invincibleseason 1 was about destroying Mark’s naivety, though it also made it clear that his invincibility does not come from his powers but from his will. While that remained intact, it may not be a good thing for everyone who cares about Mark.

That also might explain whyInvincibleseason 2 will be split into two parts. Perhaps Mark will realize the consequences of some of his actions. Remember when Omni-Man had that “What have I done?” moment during season 1’s finale? Mark may have the same realization down the line. Season 1 also demonstrated that Mark has moments of blind fury when pushed to the brink. With a little experience under his belt, the sky may be the limit for how much impact that fury will have,
