Way back in 1999, Game Freak and Nintendo released a direct sequel to its first set ofPokemongames. These games were known asPokemon Gold and Silver. The games introduced 100 new Pokemon to the series canon as well as a ton of new characters, gyms, and antagonists.Pokemon Gold and Silveralso saw gamers take control of a new protagonist who went on his own journey to become a master.
While there were somedifferences betweenPokemon Goldand the other versions, the games all followed the same basic structure. Originally known as Gold before his name was canonically switched to Ethan, the player character went around the Johto region collecting badges, battling Team Rocket, and confronting his rival, Silver, before taking on the Elite Four. Gold/Ethan’s journey then took him to the Kanto region where he battledRedandBlue’soriginal Gym leaders, took on Blue, and then challenged original protagonist Red in an epic clash on top of a mountain.

Despite having been released over 20 years ago,Pokemon Gold and Silvermaintain a strong fan base who continue to support it in their own ways to this day. In a recent Reddit post, a user by the name of uBeckrs went beyond this, sharing a bit of animation they did as a tribute to the second-generation game. Specifically, it was an animation ofPokemon Gold and Silverprotagonist Gold/Ethan made entirely with LEGO bricks. Artists have recreated entire regions likeRoute Two with LEGO bricks from the Pokemonuniverse before but rarely have they included animation like this.
The animation in thePokemon GoldLEGO artwork is relatively simple but likely took a lot of time, hard work, and effort to pull off. It shows Gold/Ethan walking, moving around, and facing different directions. The bit of LEGO animation is part of a larger video the user made that shows the character moving from one LEGO pad to another. The comments on both the YouTube video and the Reddit post were very favorable, with many impressed with the results of the animation.
Various pieces of art and tributes toPokemon Gold and Silverare relatively easy to find on the internet. Fans continue to share their various pieces of merchandise and artwork of characters from the games. Last year, someonerecreated Goldenrod City fromPokemon Gold and Silverentirely inMinecraft.
WhilePokemon Gold and Silverwill probably forever live in the shadow ofPokemon Red and Blue, its fan base has remained strong. Arguments are being made to this day thatPokemon Gold and Silverdeserve remakes for the Nintendo Switchsimilar toPokemon: Let’s Go PikachuandPokemon: Let’s Go Eevee. While Nintendo doesn’t appear to be in rush to make such a game, the fan base is keeping it alive in their own way.
