Doomfist is a difficult hero to master inOverwatch 2, and a tragic clip highlights how, surprisingly, one of Doomfist’s abilities might just be a little too powerful after it backfires in an unexpected way. Praise for Doomfist’s kit is scarcely seen these days, as the general weakness of many of the hero’s abilities have led to him becoming an unpopular and somewhat controversial tank character to choose inOverwatch 2.
Doomfist is undoubtedly one of the characters who was hit the hardest by thechanges that came with the release ofOverwatch 2. While he was originally a damage hero who was satisfying to play back inOverwatch 1- and a powerful one at that - his transition to the tank class in the sequel has left him in an awkward position. Aside from his Rising Uppercut attack being replaced with a damage-absorbing Power Block ability that adds power to Doomfist’s next Rocket Punch attack when he takes damage, much of the character’s original kit remains mostly the same, though his attacks now deal far less damage than they used to.

Doomfist’s struggle to consistently deal decent damage has led many fans to consider him much more frustrating to play, though his slightlyreworked abilities inOverwatch 2aren’t without utility. Doomfist’s empowered Rocket Punch can send enemies flying over a fair distance, but one hilarious and equally unfortunate clip shared by a fan named Over-Werewolf4223 on Reddit shows how this ability’s knockback might just be a bit too much. At the start of a round on Lijiang Tower, the Doomfist player positions themselves in the perfect spot to knock three enemies over the edge of the map, but after empowering their punch, the knockback is so strong that the three opponents are simply smashed over a pit and onto a different platform instead.
To add insult to injury, the player themselves is then knocked off the platform and sent to fall to their doom by Kiriko’s Protection Suzu, of all things. Doomfist’s highly-mobile nature leads him to stray away from the team fairly often, with many aspects of his overallplaystyle contradicting that which is expected from a tank hero inOverwatch 2. The downsides of his abilities and attacks make him neither a compelling tank nor a particularly deadly damage character, leaving him in a rough state where few players are able to find value in playing as him.
The weight on a tank’s shoulders is heavier than ever now as well, with the change to 5-player teams leaving each team with only a single tank to lead the charge. The loss of the tank can quickly lead to disaster for the entire team, so it’s no wonder many fans have been urging Blizzard togive Doomfist a more substantial rework sinceOverwatch 2was first released. The developers have tried implementing a number of buffs to the character over the past few seasons, though unfortunately, none have been all that effective at restoring the hero’s popularity.
Overwatch 2is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
