Why Did Luna Lovegood Get Kidnapped?
After theevents of Dumbledore’s murderand Voldemort taking over the wizarding world, Luna Lovegood was kidnapped by the Death Eaters, mainly because of her father, Xenophillius' political opposition against Voldemort at that time. This event occurred inHarry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1. Part of the reason why Luna was kidnapped was also attributed to the fact that she was closely associated with Harry and his friends and their fight against Voldemort.
Luna was captured alongside Mr. Ollivander, the wandmaker, and Griphook, the goblin working at Gringotts Wizarding Bank. By capturing them, the Death Eaters thought that they could stop Harry from finding the Horcruxes, pieces of Voldemort’s soulthat are necessary to defeat the Dark Lord.

How Did Xenophillius Betray Harry?
At Bill Weasley’s wedding, Harry unexpectedly crosses paths with Xenophilius Lovegood, the editor of The Quibbler. During their brief encounter, Xenophilius expresses his support for Harryand the late Dumbledorein their valiant battle against the Dark Lord. Intriguingly, Harry notices a distinct symbol adorning Xenophilius’s necklace, one that he later discovers to be the mark of the Deathly Hallows.
The newfound knowledge about the Deathly Hallows sparks Harry’s curiosity, and he becomes eager to learn more about their significance. He decides to pay a visit to Xenophilius, to learn more about the symbol.
After visiting Xenophilius’s house, Harry asks where Luna is and Xenophilius lies by assuring Harry that Luna is safe. He then later asks Xenophilius about the Deathly Hallows symbol he’s wearing, and Xenophilius explains to the triowhat the 3 Deathly Hallows are: the Elder Wand, the Resurrection Stone, and the Cloak of Invisibility. Xenophilius was a supporter of the Hallows and even sought to pursue them because of their unusual nature.
However, as the trio prepares to depart from the Lovegood house, Xenophillius tries to stall their departure. He later reveals that Luna has been kidnapped due to his public support of Harry through his articles, and he was merely stalling the trio until the arrival of Death Eaters. In exchange for Harry’s custody, Xenophillius thought he could get his daughter, Luna, back from the Death Eaters. The trio swiftly escapes the place after the Lovegood house gets attacked. Harry is shown to forgive Xenophillius later in the scenes where he sympathizes with him and says that he can’t blame him since his daughter was kidnapped. Harry and Ron later come across Luna Lovegood in a cell after getting captured by Bellatrix Lestrange’s men, and they escape with her, ensuring Luna Lovegood’s safety.
However, the same cannot be said for Xenophillius Lovegood as his fate in the movies is unknown after the Death Eaters attack his house. However, in theHarry Potterbooks, Hermione Granger makes sure that the Death Eaters see Harry’s face during the attack so Xenophillius isn’t falsely accused of a wrong call. Hermione also wipes Xenophillius' memory of what happened, and the Quibbler magazine editor is thensent to Azkaban prison. He is later freed after the Battle of Hogwarts when the Dark Lord is defeated.
