Sucker Punch’sGhost of Tsushimahas been a striking success. From the developer of theInfamoustrilogy,Ghost of Tsushimawas not only PlayStation’s fastest-selling new IP ever, but a serious contender for many 2020 Game of the Year awards. Unsurprisingly, Sucker Punch followed upGhost of Tsushima’s release with robust post-launch support, including a massive expansion and a multiplayer mode. It seems that Sucker Punch is ready to move on, however, as its confirmedGhost of Tsushimaupdates have tentatively ended.This past week Sucker Punch issued patch 2.18 forGhost of Tsushima. The patch largely dealt with small bugs and balance changes for the Legends multiplayer mode. What was most important about it, however, was a small note from theGhost of Tsushimadevelopment team at the bottom of the patch notes. The message confirms thatSucker Punchis no longer “actively working on any additional patches at the moment.” In other words, support forGhost of Tsushimahas reached its end.RELATED:Virtual Photography Could Have a Mainstream FutureSucker Punch does leave the window open in case it needs to address something inGhost of Tsushimain the future. It specifically says it’s not working on another update “at the moment,” which leaves open the possibility of doing another update later. Sucker Punch also says that it plans to continue monitoring feedback, particularly within theGhost of TsushimaLegendscommunity, in case any bugs or other issues appear.Ghost of Tsushimaplayers can also message Sucker Punch on Twitter if they have any concerns.
Sucker Punch also took the time to offer a hearty thank you to the entireGhost of Tsushimacommunityin this last message. The developer says it’s thankful for the “incredible amount of support and feedback” that players have provided since launch. Legends especially grew into a much more active community than Sucker Punch ever expected.
While there are no hints or clues regarding what Sucker Punch is working on next, it can be safely assumed that the development team is shifting its resources to another project. Perhaps that project will beanotherGhost of Tsushima, or perhaps it’ll be something different. Either way, that next game will have a very excited audience due to the successes ofGhost of Tsushima.
The end ofGhost of Tsushima’s post-launch support will likely be met kindly by players. WhileGhost of Tsushimafans would love another expansion, and Legends players would love more content, they both also very likely want to seeSucker Punch push toward another full gamerelease. Perhaps it will free up some resources to bringGhost of Tsushimato PC, too.
