Earlier today, Sony and Sucker Punch confirmed two prevalent rumors surroundingGhost of Tsushima, announcing the popular samurai adventure would be getting a Director’s Cutand that an expansion titledIki Islandwould be bundled alongside it. The new release is slated to drop on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on August 20, and for those who pre-order the new release, it seems they’ll get a few added bonuses.

According toSucker Punch’s post about the release over on the PlayStation Blog,Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cutwill be available to pre-order digitally and physically, costing $59.99 on PlayStation 4 and $69.99 on the PlayStation 5. Grabbing the game from most retailers will net two main pre-order bonuses, those being a digital artbook and mini soundtrack, while pre-purchasing from the PlayStation Store will allow new players to hop into the game’s original PlayStation 4 release while they wait for the new version to launch.

As for how the latter will work, Sucker Punch claims that pre-ordering anytime before the upcoming re-release hits the PlayStation Store will give them complete access toGhost of Tsushima’scurrent PS4 release. From there, they’ll be able to transfer their saved data over to the Director’s Cut when it launches, meaning they can resume their journey with the new version’s added content.

As for the other two pre-order bonuses, the mini soundtrack will feature a lineup of songs from the original game, with Sucker Punch adding an additional two tracks from theIki Islandexpansion. The artbook will work similarly, offering players concept art from the baseGhost of Tsushimacampaign as well as 10 additional pieces sourced from its upcoming add-on.

The Director’s Cut itself looks to offer a full PlayStation 5 upgrade, adding 4K resolution options, upping the framerate to 60 FPS, implementing haptic feedback, and working in more authentic lip-synching for the Japanese dub following criticisms back when the game released.

However, the main extra is theIki Islandexpansion, which will see Jin venture to a new area of the map. The additional content appears to be whatthe recentGhost of Ikishimaleakswere referencing, adding a whole new chapter of content. It will see Jin Sakai arrive at the neighboring island of Iki, with the game’s stoic hero exploring the scenic locale after hearing rumors that the Mongols have arrived there.

The add-on will bring new enemies, environments, mini-games, combat techniques, and armor types (including ones for the player’s horse), with Sucker Punch teasing that it will see Jin unravel a deeply personal story that brings up trauma from his past.Ghost of Tsushima’soriginal debut was one of 2020’s most successful releases, breaking several significant financial milestones and becomingthe PlayStation 4’s fastest-selling original IPto date, beating out games likeHorizon Zero Dawn, Day’s Gone, andDeath Stranding.
