A creative PlayStation fan decided to turn an old, brokenPlayStation 3controller into a work of art. Instead of just throwing thePlayStation 3controller in the trash, they dissected it and put it up on their wall.
The PlayStation 3 wasreleased in 2006 and was not one of the best-selling Sony consoles at first. Reviewers critiqued the console’s price and lack of good games, and the PS3 had to compete with the Xbox 360 and the Wii. Sony had much more success with the subsequent PS3 Slim andSuper Slim PS3 models. Both the PS3 Slim and Super Slim had better sales numbers and received significantly more positive reviews than the original PS3. The PS3 still sold over 20 million units in the United States, however, despite the poor reception from critics.

5ambear posted a photo of their creation to the PlayStation subreddit. They took apart the controller into its component parts and mounted them in a blueprint-esque style, showcasing the inner workings of the controller. The result is a very technical look that is super cool and creative. According to a comment on the thread, 5ambear designed the background using CAD, printed it on foam core, then secured the various controller pieces using wire, tacks, or hot glue. SincePS5 controllers are able to connect to the PS3, this is a great use for any old PS3 controllers people might have lying around.
This is undoubtedly a fun and innovative use for an old controller that doesn’t work anymore, especially considering thatSony tried to increase PlayStation 5 supply for the 2022 holidaysso more PlayStation fans could get their hands on the new console. It’s also pretty likely that most people have already upgraded to the PS4 at the very least, so there’s not much use for an old PS3 controller anymore. And even though some companies do sell similar deconstructed controller art, it can be cheaper and more satisfying to build one at home.
Of course, while 5ambear used their old PS3 controller, this could also be replicated with any sort of controller. Like, for example, aPS5 controller that was broken by anElden Ringplayer. While not everyone has the artistic ability or free time to create an art display out of their old controllers, they can still enjoy it vicariously through posts on the internet.
