During the PlayStation 1 era, many innovative games were being created, with some becoming household names for Sony’s machine. One of these was a third-person shooter stealth game known asSyphon Filterthat was released in 1999 and developed by Eidetic at the time. This game would become acclaimed just like fellowstealth-action trendsetterMetal Gear Solid, with it seeing positive reception and two more sequels in 2000 and 2001 to form a trilogy. It would then find further success on the PSP console withDark MirrorandLogan’s Shadow.

Eidetic would then go on to be rebranded as Studio Bend, where it would become a first-party developer for PlayStation Studios. As such, games developed by the studio have been all exclusives for thePlayStationconsoles, many of them being third-person shooters. Games developed by the developer post-Syphon FilterwereResistance: Retributionand twoUnchartedgames for the Vita. The latest effort from Studio Bend was the post-apocalyptic open-world experience and PlayStation 4 exclusiveDays Gone.

While Studio Bend would go on to continue developing other PlayStation titles, the Syphon Filter series has unfortunately been left to the wayside, with the last release being 2007’sLogan’s Shadow. Back in 2017,theSyphon Filtertrademark was renewed by Sony, which raised some fans' expectations, though nothing had materialized. This however may be paying off now as four classicSyphon Filtergames suddenly appeared on the Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea (GRAC) with all of them being for PS4 and PS5 consoles.

The fourSyphon Filtergamesthat were rated includeSyphon Filter,Syphon Filter 2,Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow, andSyphon Filter: Dark Mirror. This list strangely omits two other games from the series, those being the third entry andThe Omega Strain. The omitted games were released on the PS1 and PS2 respectively, with the ones that have been rated all previously released across the aforementioned consoles and PSP.

These titles will likely be a part of the recently announcedPlayStation Plus Premium tierthat is set to launch later this year, which is looking to offer a variety of classic games from the publisher’s history. This includes games released for PS1, PS2, and PSP generations, though PS3 games are only available via cloud streaming as opposed to local emulation. While fans might be disappointed the entireSyphon Filterseries won’t be coming all at the same time, for now, this will give newer PlayStation fans a chance to try out this classic and innovative franchise.
