Summary
Fortnite’s Big Bang event ushered in the latest era of the game, and by all accounts, the debut of Chapter 5 was a success. Servers quickly filled up to a point where Epic Games needed to rerun the event a few times, and The Big Bang resulted in the debut of three exciting game modes for the battle royale title.The hugely successfulLEGO Fortnitewas unveiled, as was the exhilaratingRocket Racingspin-off and theGuitar Hero-inspiredFortnite Festival. Unfortunately, the other part of the event, its big celebrity appearance, was viewed as a letdown.
Prior to The Big Bang, Eminem’sFortniteskins leaked alongside the info that some kind of concert from the highest-selling rapper of all time would be taking place within the game. When Epic Games confirmed that music from Eminem would indeed appear inFortnite, fans were thrilled, running wild with the idea that something on par with the Ariana Grande or Travis Scott concerts was imminent. Unfortunately, this did not happen, and Slim Shady fans were let down by how small his role in the event actually was. However, withFortnite Festivalhere to stay, it could be used to bolster Epic’scollaboration with Eminem.

Why Eminem’s Big Bang Performance Was a Letdown
To be clear, the Eminem content seen during The Big Bang was entertaining, as Epic made good use of its Eminem skins within his short sequences. “Lose Yourself” was used to showcaseFortnite Festival, with fans getting to experience half the song before the younger Marshall Mathers was interrupted by his present day self. While donning hisMusic to be Murdered Byoutfit, a gigantic version of Eminem tears down a city while performing “Godzilla.” This sequence is wildly entertaining, but just like with Lose Yourself, the song cuts off part-way through. Even worse, this is the last fans get to see of Eminem in The Big Bang.
While fans are partially to blame for setting high expectations and expecting a long 20-30 minute concerts like what some past artists received, it is hard not to feel like Eminem’s role in The Big Bang was a case of wasted potential. Not only would full versions of “Godzilla” and “Lose Yourself” been nice to experience, but several more songs could have been performed to make Eminem’sFortniteappearance as big as it deserved to be. While Epic Games likely did not want The Big Bang to be too long and Eminem-focused, having a separate concert event alongside his 3-minute segment in The Big Bang would have been an ideal approach.
Eminem’sFortniteconcertcould have also benefited from real life footage mixed in with the in-game character models, similar to what was seen in the Soundwave Series.
Fortnite Festival Could Feature More Music From Eminem
Fortunately,Fortnite Festivalcould serve as a second chance of sorts for Epic Games to satisfy Eminem fans. With other rappers represented within the mode such asKendrick Lamar, and “Lose Yourself” being used for its original unveiling,Fortnite Festivalcould surely house a number of Eminem songs. While there is plenty of Eminem music that would be too explicit to feature without being hard to listen to thanks to censored words, he has several songs that could translate well toFortnite Festival, just a few of which are listed below.
With fast verses in some of these songs and in other potential additions like “Not Alike,” performing them well inFortnite Festivalwould surely turn out to be a fun challenge. Players could also wear their Eminem skins to recreate the long concert that they wanted The Big Bang to have, which would be a nice middle ground. Considering thatEminem dominatedFortnite’s RadioswhenCurtain Call 2’s release was approaching, having more of that music inside the game’s music-focused mode feels like a no-brainer.
