Forspoken, the upcoming debut title from Square Enix’s Luminous Productions studio, recently unveiled over four minutes of uncut open-world gameplay footage. However, that’s not all the developers revealed–interested gamers have also been given new information about the game’s technical specs. New details have come to light about the graphics modes and DualSense features thatForspokenwill have on PS5.
Although this new IP is being made by a team thatinitially worked onFinal Fantasy 15,Forspokenappears to be taking a different approach to the fantasy adventure game. Players will take on the role of Frey Holland, a woman from New York who has been transported to the beautiful and cruel land of Athia. With the aid of a magical, sentient bracelet called Cuff, she must battle her way through monstrous creatures and uncover secrets in order to find a way home.

Creative Producer Raio Mitsuno has stated that the game will feature three different graphics modes on PS5: Performance Mode, Graphics Mode, and Ray Tracing Mode. Many modern titles have added these three graphics modes, and they will hopefully give players the ability tobring outForspoken’s gorgeous environmentswhile keeping hardware limitations in mind. Reportedly, Performance Mode will run at 1440p resolution at 60FPS, Graphics Mode will run at 4K resolution at 30FPS, and Ray Tracing Mode will simply add ray tracing.
Although Mitsuno did not specify the resolution and frame rate for Ray Tracing Mode, comparingForspokento otherPS5 titles with ray tracingmay suggest what numbers gamers can expect. It’s likely thatForspoken’s Ray Tracing Mode will run at a 1080p resolution with a possible target framerate of 30FPS. Game director Takeshi Aramaki also spoke up, going into some detail about the game’s DualSense features. Although he appears to have focused on discussing a single aspect of the DualSense controller, it’s likely that more features will be taken advantage of in the final game.
Aramaki claims thatForspokenwill use the DualSense controller’s adaptive triggers to give distinct tactile feedback when the player uses different types of magic. Apparently, the planners and designers have worked out how to ensure the controller gives players different kinds of feedback when using each spell. It remains to be seen how many other unique features of the PS5 hardware will be implemented in thefinal build ofForspoken, but gamers that enjoy haptic feedback will likely have a good time with this game.
Forspokenwill be released for PC and PlayStation 5 on June 04, 2025. The game will be a PS5 console exclusive for approximately two years.
