Looting and crafting inFinal Fantasy 16doesn’t really bear the importanceit usually does in theFinal Fantasysaga. Apart from improving weapons and armor, there is not much more to it. Perhaps because of that, plenty of useful items tend to be ignored. Every player will be using potions, but truth be told there are other items worth taking into consideration. And for a journey of this size, it’s better to pay attention to every detail to avoid missing out on the meticulous work put on this game.
Final Fantasy 16has been out long enough that a lot of fans are already starting to talk about in past tense. However, for those who are still taking part on Clive’s journey, or are thinking about a second run to complete the game, adding a different dimension on how to approach the relationship with the items in the game could be helpful. Here are some of those interesting, yet underrated, items.

5Stoneskin Tonic
Focusing on defense is certainly not the flashiest way to go. Perhaps that’s why Stoneskin Tonic sales are low compared to other consumables. However, keeping a few of them on hand allows for a more careless style of play, which certainly makes things fun.Final Fantasy 16’s amazing combat systemthrives on being spectacular and exciting. If the focus is set on attacking thanks to the 30% defense boost, the Stoneskin Tonic offers for 90 seconds, the experience just gets better.

90 seconds might not seem like a lot, but if the enemy isn’t a boss or a mini-boss, the fight won’t be much longer than that. When fighting a boss, it still helps. Most players won’t be able to simply dodge every attack, and the number of potions players can carry is limited. This item is available in every store for 600 gil apiece.
4Wyrrite
Wyrrite is without a doubt the most versatile item in the game. Despite this, its value is often overlooked in the final stages of the game.It can be obtained in a million different ways, to the point that players may collect up to a 100 without even noticing. But one could argue that it’s not enough.
This item is used mainly for crafting and upgrading more than a dozen of different kinds of equipment, both weapons and armor. It’s a must-have in the early stages of Clive’s journey. It also has a sell price of just 20 gil, but that wouldn’t make much sense until there is no use for it.

3Meteorite
This is another item for crafting that quickly becomes a must. The meteorite, like the wyrrite, is not exactly hard to find, although it’s a bit rarer. Notably, it drops a lot from targets in the Hunt Board, but it can also be found in some other quests and can even be purchased for 1,000 gil. This item’s worth lies in the many equipments pieces thatrequire it for a +2 upgrade. It’s also needed for the +3 potion upgrade.

Furthermore, its sell price of 500 gil makes it good for gil farming if the upgrades become expendable. Either way, the Meteorite is one of the best items for crafting. It’s probably the best excluding the one needed for the best sword in the game, the Gotterdammerung.
2Last Elixir
This one-of-a-kind item doesn’t need to prove its, worth since that is made clear from the beginning. When used, the Last Elixir will automatically restore HP upon KO and fill the limit gauge. It will boost Clive’s attack power 10% and defense 30% for a minute. It’s by far the best consumable of the game, but its downsides have made players choose against having it. While it makes Clive hard to beat, there is only one in the entire game, and it carries a price tag of 20,000 gil.

The Last Elixir is available to buy at Charon’s Toll when players get to the main quest “Things Fall Apart.” It’s a very expensive item, especially if the player uses it by accident or in a minor fight with the auto-heal accessory equipped. However, when the player reaches that stage of the game, money shouldn’t be a problem if they have been doing a fair amount of side quests. And about the moment to use it, the item description gives away a hint, saying it is the last elixir the player will ever need.
1One Man’s Treasure
If the price was a concern for the Last Elixir, this next item might be the solution. The One Man’s Treasure, as its name indicates, is a precious item that can be sold for 100,000 gil. It’s an instant injection of money, but alsovery easy to miss for those who are not awareof its existence beforehand.
To get the item, players must first find the Treasure Map, which waits by a dead body northwest of the Great Southern Gate in the Kingdom of Waloed. This map leads to a chest south of Titan’s Wake.
