However, during the announcement,Final Fantasy 14revealed several other updatescoming to the game, including a major change to how the dye system works. Currently, each piece of dyable gear and housing decoration can only be dyed a single color. ComeDawntrail, nearly all of these items will get an additional dye slot. This will let players mix and match multiple colors on a single item, allowing them a whole new breadth of cosmetic customization for their characters.

Some other major MMORPGs already have similar dye systems in place. Many pieces of gear inGuild Wars 2have up to four slots for dyes, one of the greatest strengths of its own cosmetic system. Now thatFinal Fantasy 14is getting multiple dye slots, the critically-acclaimedMMORPG’s transmog systemis taking a huge step in the right direction.

Were that not exciting enough,Final Fantasy 14also announced that characters will have an additional gear slot in the form of eyeglasses. This gear will enable players to wear glasses or goggles in addition to helmets and other headgear. Eyeglasses are cosmetic only, and won’t have stats tied to them, so raiders don’t need to worry about collecting more gear at endgame. Additionally,Final Fantasy 14will be increasing the limits on furnishingssome time after the expansion drops.

Dawntrailalso brings with it the first graphical update forFinal Fantasy 14. Models, environments, and lighting are all getting an impressive facelift in the expansion, with subsequent patches continuing the journey of improving models across the game. This graphics update is slightly increasing the minimum and recommended system requirements for the PC version, butFinal Fantasy 14plans to continue support for the PS4 for the foreseeable future. On top of that,Final Fantasy 14is finally coming to Xbox, and will be available for the Series X/S consoles once it begins its beta testing period next spring before the launch ofDawntrail.
