With E3 2021 happening in just a few weeks and Ubisoft among the companies taking part, it was widely assumed that its Ubisoft Forward event would include a new trailer forFar Cry 6. Ever since theoriginalFar Cry 6announcementin July last year, which was given away by leaks, Ubisoft has spoken very little about the game, possibly because of complications caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

It turns out, however, that the silence is ending much sooner than fans may have expected. Instead of waiting forthe Ubisoft Forward event, which is scheduled to take place on June 12th, Ubisoft will be holding a livestream to reveal the first sample ofFar Cry 6’s gameplay on May 28. It will air at 9:30 am PDT/6:30pm CEST.

The teaser trailer doesn’t reveal any gameplay of its own, with it consisting entirely of narration from Anton Castillo, the game’s main antagonist who is being played byGiancarlo Esposito. Castillo gives a speech about defending Yara, the fictional island he rules, from the fake Yarans spreading chaos. Considering he’s a dictator and players take control of a freedom fighter aiming to remove him from power, his speech can most likely be considered a form of propaganda. At one point, his portrait is defaced to give him devil-like horns.

Castillo’s son, Diego, is completely absent from the teaser. Castillo is raising his son so that he will eventually take over and continue Castillo’s rule over Yara in his place. However, with how little info there is, it’s not entirely clear what role Diego has in the story. There was at one point speculation that he isa younger Vaas fromFar Cry 3, but that is false.

This livestream doesn’t necessarily rule outFar Cry 6being shown off in some form at E3, but the question now becomes whether or not Ubisoft has separate information saved for June. At the very least, there’s a possibility Ubisoft could share a more concrete release date either during this week’s reveal or at the Ubisoft Forward event.

The game was supposed to release earlier this year but, due to the aforementioned coronavirus pandemic, Ubisoft opted todelayFar Cry 6until after April 2021. Depending on how far along development is, a 2021 release is still viable and possibly the most ideal for Ubisoft. However, it’s also possible that it won’t be ready until early 2022.

Far Cry 6will release for Amazon Luna, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
