Exoprimalis one of the wildest story concepts from Capcom in a while. In the future, out of nowhere, dark portals started opening up and they were filled with dinosaurs. Raptors, pterodactyls, T-Rexes, and more wreak havoc in futuristic societies. The world quickly put together a force to take care of these nuisances via mech suits.

Players are a new recruit in a unit that gets sucked into an island where they must relive the past over and over again in a simulation. Can they escape the horrors of this AI and dinosaur-infested island? That’s the basic plot ofExoprimalbut there is so much more to go over concerning the gameplay ofthis mech-adjacent game. It’s time for a few beginning pointers.
6The Team Class Dynamic
Players can set up what class they will default into upon starting a match. Before a match begins, all five players on the team will go into a virtual waiting room. It’s here that players can analyze the team dynamic based on the classes chosen.
Diversity is the best way to win a match inExoprimalwhich is a basic tip forall multiplayer games. For example, if the team is comprised entirely of melee classes, grab a ranged class like the Deadeye. Alternatively, a healer like the Witchdoctor is a good idea for any team composition. They may be weak physically, but they can keep the party buffed up and ready to go.

5Pay Attention To Mission Goals
Unlikea lot of multiplayer games, the goal is not to kill everything onscreen at all times. Even when hundreds of raptors are swarming, that may not be the goal. The top of the screen will dictate what dinosaur players should focus on and how many of those dinosaur types players should kill.

In the early hours ofExoprimal, it’s easy to miss this mechanic. For example, the game may endlessly spawn pterodactyls but the mission may end by slaying one T-Rex. This is a race against the other team, so every second counts. The overall tip is to pay attention to stats, meters, and everything else in the HUD.
4It’s Okay To Lose
There is a story that players can follow in this game and the way to move forward is by playing missions. Typicallyin action games, the story will progress if players finish levels victoriously but that is not the case inExoprimal. Losing is a valid way to finish the game.
The game is set up so that two opposing teams of five will go after the same goals. Finishing first will grant better rewards but the narrative is never hindered due to a loss. It’s all one big training exercise which is how the game justifies this mechanic. While it’s fun to win, don’t feel let down or angry at yourself or your team if a losing streak happens.

3Cooldowns And Game Invasions
Every class in the game has a set of skills that run on cooldowns. For example, the aforementioned healer of the game, Witchdoctor, has an area of effect skill that can heal party members in a ring. This can be used once before the cooldown begins. Skills based on cooldowns should be spammed which is a tip that applies to cooldowns in all types of games frommultiplayer shooters to RPGs.
There are exceptions inExoprimallike the class ultimate abilities which take a while to charge up. Those should be saved for big encounters like with a boss dinosaur or with the opposing force. The same is true for the invasion mechanic which allows players to invade the other game temporarily as a dinosaur like the T-Rex. Save the invasion items when the other team gets ahead.

2Building Defenses
Fortniteis the first big multiplayer shooterthat added building mechanics in a significant way. It is just as valid to build a fortress to lure players in as it is to snipe players from across the map in that game. Exoprimal does have an extended building mechanic in it, but there are disposable items.

Dinosaurs can randomly drop golden icons which translate to things like walls and turrets. Like the dinosaur slaying goal, it may not register with players right away that they have these items on standby. The icons are located just above the skills menu. So, in a pinch, double-check the item slots as turrets can especially make a huge difference in battle.
1Understanding Health
The number one thing players should be concerned with ina multiplayer gameis their health. Every match will have players begin with a single white bar of health. If this depletes, characters go into a standby state where they can be revived. While it’s a nice gesture to revive a teammate right away, it’s important to be practical about it.
If their bodies are being swarmed by a bunch of dinosaurs or opponents, it’s best to leave that teammate alone. Dying to save another is not a noble gesture. The health bar can be overcharged too, which is why the Witchdoctor is such a valid class. Its healing techniques can overlay the white bar with a green bar. Who doesn’t want a little more health?

Exoprimalwas released on July 14, 2025, and is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
