7Path of Least Resistance Ending, Explained
V Gives Up By Taking Life Into Their Own Hands
The Path of Least Resistance is an ending path that will abruptly end the game and roll credits, but not before giving Johnny Silverhand and V their final goodbye. The two share a moment on Misty’s rooftop, where V, still in control of their own body, decides that there’s no hope for a cure, nor a path forward that doesn’t involve someone getting hurt or killed, that isn’t themselves. V uses the gun given to them by Misty to shoot themselves in the head, killing both them and Johnny Silverhand. V’s decision is understood by Johnny, even if it’s not what he wants, and it’s a way for V to control their fate and not put their faith in someone else. The credits roll, and friends of Vexpress great griefover their untimely suicide.
6The Devil Ending, Explained
V Let’s Arasaka Take the Wheel, Despite Johnny’s Warning
Seeing Hanako Arasaka as a lifeline, V betrays Johnny Silverhand and their friends to follow a corporation that’s done nothing but bad things for the world. V is an unknowing pawn and helps to reverse the patricide of Saburo Arasaka’s death by helping Hanako take control of Arasaka. Mikoshi is never destroyed, and Johnny never gets to reunite with Alt. V’s reward sees them placed in a secret lab in an Arasaka space station, where Arasaka scientists pluck at V’s brain in an attempt to remove the Relic. V suffers permanent damage to their brain, and removal of the Relic is unsuccessful. Even Hanako Arasaka has forgotten V, proving that she was never out to help this merc. There’s a final decision for V to take on board the space station: return to Earth and Night City to live out their last few weeks, or months. Or, become an engram like Johnny was, having a digitized consciousness in the hopes that one day Arasaka will find a cure, but it’s more than likely that they will just forget about V, leaving them in the infinite void of a digital space, swept successfully under the rug.
5The Star Ending, Explained
V Moves On From Night City with the Aldecaldos As Family
V and the Aldecaldos use their new tank to infiltrate Arasaka Tower, but a battle between V, Panam, and Saul against Adam Smasher sees Saul killed. Panam and V defeat Smasher and reach Mikoshi, where V and Johnny share a farewell as Johnny leaves for beyond the Blackwall with Alt. As for V, they are told by Alt that there is no cure. V decides to live out what time they have left with Panam Palmer and the Aldecaldos, seeing this Nomad group as a family. The Aldecaldos, with V and Panam at the helm, leave Night City behind. While V may die in a few months, they will at least die knowing they are with family, and there’s still hope that they use their connections and Nomadic travel to find someone who can cure V’s condition before they fade away.
4The Sun Ending, Explained
V Gets Their Blaze of Glory by Working for a Mystery Man to Rob a Space Casino
Entrusting Johnny with V’s body to infiltrate Arasaka with Rogue will result in a successful operation, but one that sees Rogue killed by Adam Smasher. Johnny and V reunite in Mikoshi with Alt, where Alt lets V know that there is simply no cure. With Johnny’s goal complete, he elects to leave with Alt, and V returns to their body to take Rogue’s place as the new King/Queen of the Afterlife. V becomes the Night City Legend they always wanted to be, albeit one without Jackie, and with only a few weeks left to live. V gets into contact with Mr. Blue Eyes, a mysterious character with powerful (but unknown) associates, and is hired to do a heist at the Crystal Palace, a space station. What treasure awaits at the Crystal Palace is unknown, but considering Mr. Blue Eyes' importance, it’s more than likely that this exchange will get V a cure for their condition, or go out ina blaze of gloryfor trying.
3Temperance Ending, Explained
Johnny Silverhand Gets a New Life in V’s Body
V and Johnny manage to make it to Mikoshi to meet Alt Cunninham, only to find out that it was for nothing. V’s condition is terminal, and it’s a matter of weeks, or even days, until V dies. Filled with no hope, V decides that their time is up, and it’s time to see what awaits the next life beyond the Blackwall with Alt, and to give Johnny the second chance he never got. V dies by going with Alt, and the body left behind is now completely Johnny Silverhand’s. With a new start on life, Johnny leaves Night City behind to become a drifter, to search for something else to believe in, and to fight for, without forgetting V. Johnny gets a fresh start, but doesn’t give V’s allies the closure they need, which leads to Panam’s promise to finding where Johnny has gone to make him pay for taking V’s body. Whether Panam ever finds Johnny is not known, since Johnny seems to have moved on to a new life away from the fame of Samurai or the violent hatred for Arasaka.
2The Tower Ending, Explained
V is Cured, At the Cost of Cyberware, Relationships, and 2 Years of Life
V continues to work for President Myers and NUSA, alongside Solomon Reed, to capture So-Mi “Songbird” and take her in so that NUSA can keep her contained as a weapon with access to the Blackwall. Capturing Songbird and bringing her in with Solomon Reed will see the NUSA agent return to Langley, where he will keep his promise to V that the top scientists in America will remove the Relic as if it were a tumor. V calls Reed to fulfill this promise, leaving Night City on an AV carrier provided by NUSA, despite Johnny’s plea to find another way. The folks at Langley are successful in removing the Relic, thus killing Johnny Silverhand, but the complications resulted in V being in a coma for 2 years. Waking up in 2079, V is now allergicto cyberware, with everyone they knew having abandoned them and moved on with their lives after V disappeared off the grid for so long. V returns to Night City as a wanderer, adrift to start a life as a standard NPC in a city that’s moved on fromV’s dream of becoming a legend.
1The Secret Ending, Explained
V and Johnny Party Like It’s 2023
After building a close bond togetherafter Johnny’s funeral in Chippin' In, Johnny tells V that it’s tough to decide which of their friends gets to die, and so he elects for a wild, suicide run. Johnny and V take to Arasaka Tower as just the two of them, cutting a path to Mikoshi without anyone else’s help. If V dies during this assault, then the credits roll as if V had committed suicide. However, if V makes it to Mikoshi, then they have the choice between The Sun ending and the Temperance ending, except Rogue will not have died since V never let her join this assault on Arasaka Tower against Adam Smasher.
