Elon Musk has said he’s happy to step down as CEO ofTwitterif he can find a replacement, after it became apparent that many users wanted him to no longer be in charge. Since the famed billionaire took over the social media platform a few weeks back, many have been concerned about the website’s future.Gamers often tweet about their favorite titlesand gaming journalists use it to obtain key information, often straight from the source itself.Elon Musk announced he was buying Twitterearlier this year, with the final sale going through on October 27 for an eye-watering $44 billion. Since becoming CEO, the SpaceX founder has made waves, admittedly mostly negative ones, across the social media platform with policy changes. Within days of the takeover, more than 4,000 employees were let go from the company and several controversial announcements were made, such as the verification ticks next to a user’s name now being offered up as a paid service.RELATED:Twitter Bans ElonJet AccountIn light of recent events, Musk has agreed to step down as current CEO ofTwitter, though there is one caveat to this. In a tweet posted by the entrepreneur, he has said that he will step down if he can find someone “foolish” enough to take the job. At the time of writing, one Tom Anderson, former CEO of Myspace, an early progenitor of social media, is currently at the top of the replies, implying that he may be putting his hat in the ring. However, this doesn’t mean Musk will be leaving Twitter for good. His recent tweet goes on to say that, even if he isn’t chief executive officer, he will still run the software and server teams.
This news comes afterTwitter users voted for Elon Musk to step down. Out of more than 17 million people who voted on a poll that Musk posted himself, 57.5% of users agreed that the billionaire should no longer be in charge of the social media site. He has said that he will abide by the ruling, but whether he will hold to that remains to be seen. It all depends on whether someone wants to take over for him.
As mentioned earlier, since he became CEO,Twitter has made some controversial changesto the platform. Within days of certain announcements, the site experienced a huge exodus as people began to flock to alternative sites, such as Mastodon. The fact that, for a short period, Elon Musk was banning any mention of other social media websites onTwitteris just one of the many reasons people have been leaving over the past few weeks.
