AnElden Ringinvader lined up a ridiculously accurate shot to take out a fleeing host mere seconds before they would have been safe. Albeit an open-world role-playing game ostensibly built around melee combat,Elden Ringoffers a variety of ranged alternatives, from a wide array of sorceries and incantations to seldom-seen weaponry.

Elden Ring’s available arsenal has a such breadth that it was inevitable some items would fall into obscurity or boast only circumstantial use. The Jar Cannon falls into the latter camp, a fun and surprisingly powerful long-range Ballista that enjoyed a moment of fame earlier this year when it was consideredone of the most effective ways to deal with AFK farmers. It is hard to describe Away From Keyboard farming as a rune-gathering exploit instead of merely a trolling technique, but some would find a seemingly inaccessible area before allowing invaders into their world. Subsequently, invaders would either fight with other summoned phantoms or leave in frustration, granting the AFK host a minuscule amount of runes for doing so.

TheJar Cannon swiftly became the weapon of choicefor those tired of AFK farmers and was extensively used in their eradication. Another benefit of the Ballista is just how stylish it makes long-distance kills look, demonstrated perfectly in a video posted to Reddit. An invader is crouched at the edge of a cliff, overlooking the Foot of the Forge Site of Grace, nearby the entrance to Fire Giant. Two other players are within the Jar Cannon’s scoped view, congregating around the Site of Grace, both staggered by a direct hit from an Explosive Greatbolt.

Panic ensues, but they are afforded a brief respite from airborne bombardment, given that the subsequent shot is blocked by a rock formation directly in front of the invader. An executive decision is made by the host to run like the wind, a previously hidden ally joining them both in retreat. After a few near misses, escape is becoming increasingly likely for the host and their Furled Fingers, nearing the chain bridge that leads to the Fire Giant.

The invader opts to alter their strategy and moves further up the cliff, taking a second to aim before firing. Soaring through the air for nearly two whole seconds, the Greatbolt lands near the chain’s end right as the host reaches that same point. Only reducing their health by approximately a third, it was the pushback effect from the blast that forced the host off and to their death. This made for one of thebest kills yet seen during anElden Ringinvasion.

Elden Ringis available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
