The following article contains spoilers forBlack AdamBlack Adamconquered the weekend box office and it seems like word-of-mouth among those who have seen it is doing wonders for a film that’s certainly not been up critics’ alley, much to Dwayne Johnson’s pleasure.

Johnson’s superhero debut raked in a whopping $67 million for Warner Bros. Discovery in the United States, totalling over $140 million worldwide, to putBlack Adamon a solid track toward profitability from its reported $200 million budget. Nevertheless, when it comes to critics, mostBlack Adamreviewsrefer to it as a mixed bag, contrary to the overwhelmingly positive reception it received from fans.

One person who’s more than happy with this trend is Black Adam himself. Johnson put out a tweet celebrating the current 90% score the movie has on Rotten Tomatoes, with it doing similarly well on other review aggregator sites such as IMDb (7.1/10) or Metacritic (7.5/10), despite it not faring so well on Letterboxd (2.9/5). Conversely,Black Adam’s reputation has been ravaged by critics, as the film qualifies for a 39% rotten score on the Tomatometer and it possesses similar margins on any scale that separates viewers' opinions from those of critics.

AlthoughBlack Adambenefits greatly from Johnson’s star power, the actor is more than happy with that. He thanked fans for their support and put their reactions and satisfaction above anything else.Black Adam’s reception is one of the most recent examples of diverging opinions on superhero films among moviegoers and critics, though by far the most extreme, withVenom: Let There Be Carnage,Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, andThor: Love and Thunderall having similar, albeit much tighter spreads.

Suffice it to say, out of those four,Black Adamis the one doing worst with critics, yet it’s also the one fans appear to love the most. Admittedly,Black Adamis far from perfect, however, it does set the DCEU on a course andbrings back Henry Cavill as Superman, something that will undoubtedly have many folks excited about both characters’ future.

That’s far from the only thingBlack Adamsets up for the DCEU, and on top of that,Black Adam will also be joiningMultiVersusthis week, which might help the game pick up some further momentum after a noticeable drop-off in its concurrent player base.

Black Adamis currently available in theaters.
