Who Survived The Most Tragic Woes?
With the exciting backstories embedded inOne Piece, essential characters in the series faced so many woes that it is a surprise how much toxicity that shaped their past doesn’t stop them from being humane. Nico Robin is the most conspicuous character whose past is pivotal to many mysteries in the series. As a young child, she survived the world government’s wrath, and her lineage as part of the O’hara people will forever place a target on her back. While Robin’s ability to read the poneglygh makes her a threat to the World Government, she will forever be a great asset to any pirate crew.Nico Robinlost everything on O’hara’s final day, including her mother whom she shared a fleeting moment. But she isn’t the first person to suffer at the hand of the world government, nor would she be the last as the series progresses.
The Romeo ofthe straw hat crewhas had his fair share of starvation and abuse. The straw hat cook, Vinsmoke Sanji’s backstory, was relayed in two parts; first with the pirate Zeff and another about his curly eyebrow family. With the pirate Zeff, Sanji starved to the bone on an island, but that was nothing compared to the mental torture and abuse he experienced as a child. He lost his mother at a very young age, and his father and siblings turned out to be monsters, so they had a funeral for him to hide the shame of Sanji being a weakling compared to his strong siblings.

While the aforementioned names have resonating and emotionally impacting backstories, the likes of Senor Pink, Brooks, Chopper, and even Momonosuke have all gone through a fair share of turmoil in their past. However, none of these backstories come close as disheartening as the ex-schibukai and surgeon of death. Trafalgar Law.
Trafalgar Law’s Epileptic Happiness Before The Heart Pirates
Like his nickname, ‘the surgeon of death’,the ex-warlord of the seastory is one borne out of horror and death. Eiichiro Oda’sOne Piecehas been on the radar and in the world’s eye for so long because of the many compelling characters the creator has woven into the great adventure. For almost all the great anime likeNaruto,Attack On Titan, andFull Metal Alchemist, amongst others, there is always a character with a sad backstory, andOne Piecehas just as many that fall on this thread. And while some of the characters' gut-wrenching backstories resonate more strongly than the others, there is a thin line with knowing who had it worse in the anime. But in all, even though Trafalgar and Robin’s cases seemed alike since they suffered at the hand of a similar antagonist, Trafalgar still had it worse than the latter.
