Initially released as a PC andXbox One exclusive, the critically-acclaimedCupheadhas just become available on PlayStation 4, giving a whole new group of players the chance to experience its unique art style and striking difficulty. While many of these new fans will prefer to take onCupheadsolo, others may wish to enjoy the title with their friends, leaving them to wonder if online multiplayer is available.
To get right to the matter at hand, players cannot start an online multiplayer session ofCupheadon PS4 through the game itself. That said, all may not be lost when it comes to playing the game from a distance, as some fans suggest that it is possible to use the PlayStation 4’s Share Play feature to setup online cooperative play.

For the uninitiated, to useShare Play on PS4a player simply needs to press the “Share” button on their DualShock 4 controller. From there they should follow the onscreen prompts to setup a Party with their friend and start a Share Play session, and this should essentially giveCupheadon PS4 a sort of online multiplayer support.
This is very similar to how PC players have been usingSteam’s Remote Play featureto setup online co-opCupheadon that platform. While this approach may not be as streamlined as being able to simply launch online multiplayer from within the game, it is a suitable workaround for those fans that really want to experience co-op from afar.
To note,Cupheadfor PS4does support local co-op, which allows players to team up if they are using the same console. This is something that fans that cannot get Share Play to work properly may want to consider, though it is certainly not the best option when it comes to maintaining social distance.
While the absence of official online multiplayer support may be a bit disappointing to some fans,Cuphead’s arrival on PS4 is still a big win for those players that have yet to experience the game. Additionally, it is possible that developer StudioMDHR will address this concern in a future update, though that does not seem extremely likely at this point.
