With Season 17 rapidly approaching, Bungie has begun to detail some of the changesDestiny 2players can expect. In fact, the studio has even teased what’s to come in next week’s blog post which plans to detail the large scale sandbox changes that are on the way. While avoiding revealing specifics, community manager Dylan Gafner teased that the lengthy blog will have a detailed breakdown of themanyDestiny 2sandbox and weapon balancesthat are on deck for Season 17.

The post also revealed how the studio is planning to keep older dungeons and raids feeling fresh. Starting next season, the older content will be placed in a weekly rotation to help players bypass any lockouts on encounter rewards for legendary items. In addition, thisdungeon/raid playlist will give Destiny 2 players access to a pinnacle droptied to a weekly challenge, similar to other playlist activities. Ultimately, this should be a good way for players to farm gear.

Where is Xur?

This weekend, players will need to head to the Tower hangar to find Xur overlooking the snowy mountains.

From the default landing zone, immediately head to the left and following the path down into the Hangar. After entering the hangar, head left again past Arach Jalaal and his Dead Orbit crew and up a metal staircase. Xur is standing on a metal platform at the back of this room overlooking the mountain ranges below.

Class Armor and Exotic Cipher

Xur’s role continues to offer the usual weekly quests, exotics, and legendary gear. Not only are these quests required to purchase a second fated engram, but they’re necessary toacquire legacy exotic gear from the Tower kiosk. Players can earn a new cipher by completing strikes and winning crucible or gambit matches. Gain bonus points for playing with clanmates or finishing more challenging activities.

Xur continues to sell even more gear outside his usual content. In addition to his normal exotic gear, Xur now has Legendary Weapons and Armor for sale in exchange for Legendary Shards and Glimmer.

Exotic Armor

Skull of Dire Ahamkara - Warlock helmet

The Skull of Dire Ahamkara was once the cream of the Warlock exotic crop. Bungie felt the item was too strong, however, and anerf has made this helm a shadow of what it once was. It’s armor perk is Actual Grandeur which not only provides additional damage resistance when casting Nova Bomb, but kills grant super energy.

Naturally, this is a Voidwalker specific armor piece, but due to recent nerfs it’s hard to recommend over some other choices that Warlocks have access to at this point in time. The roll is also just okay this week, nothing to get overly excited about.

Void Enhanced. Stat Values:

Ophidia Spathe - Hunter chest armor

Ophidia Spathe comes with Scissor Fingers, which grants Hunters two throwing knives instead of the typical one.

Xur with his treasure hoard from Destiny 2.

For those who enjoy rolling the Gunslinger subclass, the Ophidia Spathe synergizes particularly well with the Way of a Thousand Cuts and Gambler’s Dodge. It essentially allows the player to nearly continuously throw knives. With a Solar 3.0 revision coming very soon, these exotics could see a boost. Combined with the high stat roll this week, this could be a good pickup, especially for thosestashing it for the Solar 3.0 update.

Solar Enhanced. Stat Values:

ACD/0 Feedback Fence - Titan gauntlets

The intrinsic perk called Fury Conductors build energy when getting melee kills. Being hit by a melee attack not only reduces incoming damage and unleashes the currently stored energy in an explosion.

It may not be the best available Titan exotic, it is remains a solid choice especially for those players who enjoy PvP content. Getting punched and causing small explosions is a powerful, fun, and destructive ability to have. Unfortunately, the stat roll for this week is the lowest of the three, so again, it’s not a required pickup by any means.

Arc Enhanced. Stat Values:

Exotic Weapon

It’s been a very long time but thelinear fusion rifle known as The Queenbreakeris back in stock this weekend. It allows players to pick how they want the gun to fire. Through Marksman sights, players can stack additional damage with long-range sights that also display ammo and charge levels. The tradeoff is that it takes the gun a little longer to fully charge before firing. Combat sights give the player faster charges and greater handling, though they can’t zoom in as far.

The exotic perk for this weapon is called Wire Rifle which fires a long range precision Arc bolt that blinds enemies on hit. Players can also change the sights on it which impacts charge time and damage. This is a bit of a skill weapon so it won’t be for everyone. However, those who give it a chance will find that it’s pretty useful in the right situations, even though it requires heavy ammo.

Additional perks:

Since Season 16 removed the Presage and Harbinger exotic missions,Xur is also selling both Hawkmoon and Dead Man’s Tale with randomized rolls. Players should visit him each weekend as he’ll be carrying different rolls.
