Bungie recently announced that the Forsaken expansion forDestiny 2will be getting vaulted in the future. While this decision will likely introduce new DLC and bring back other vaulted material down the line, it still generated some strong discussions online The announcement of the expansions removal fromDestiny 2split the community with some fans of the looter-shooter feeling slighted by the choice, while others seem to understand the motives for it.

While the act of vaulting content that players had to pay for can definitely leave a sour taste in someone’s mouth, the studio sees it as a necessary step for the game to continue to grow. The Forsaken expansion itself has some incredible storytelling and does play a major part in informing players of the Awoken’s role in Sol, while also building much of Crow’s backstory and helping bring the character into the fold of the Tower.Destiny 2’s Forsaken story expansionhas some major repercussions and the activities that can be found in it contain sought after exotic weapons and armor as well.

Missing the Raid and Grinding Exotics

Vaulting the story, events, and locations associated with the Forsaken expansion also impacts a part of theDestiny 2community’s hardcore players: its achievement and trophy hunters. Players that have yet to grind out some of the more specific tasks such as “An Exotic Journey” and “Wishing for the Best” achievements are quickly running out of time; after all, a raid group can be difficult to get together when players consider what limitations a player can run in to. Raids require a significant amount of time, something that achievement hunters may have to spare, but they also are designed to require groups of six Guardians.

The level of difficulty that goes into the activities and the challenge of the puzzles and boss fights that Bungie uses can make it almost necessary to have this full group. There are those that have been ableto complete raids inDestiny 2solo, but the fact remains that the activity becomes that much more difficult to do when working with fewer people.

The “An Exotic Journey” achievement, on the other hand, does leave players with a couple of different options in regard to how it can be completed. Though the quests for exotic weapons often present much less of a challenge to get them done, players will still need to invest some time into the Forsaken expansion. Weapons such as theexotic hand cannon Malfeasanceand the exotic bow Wish-Ender will require multiple steps to complete. The difficulty of these is heavily dependent on what players consider hard or easy, but they will still make for a challenge regardless.

Completing either the Malfeasance or Wish-Ender quest will also put players on their way to another of the achievements that will become an obstacle once the Forsaken expansion has been vaulted fromDestiny 2. The “Exotique” achievement requires that players collect ten different pieces ofexotic Forsaken weapons or armor. The achievement is straightforward in its demands but can quickly come down to sheer dumb luck. If the RNG gods are in a player’s favor, the task can become something that achievement hunters quickly accomplish by racking up exotics through Nightfall activities and putting in a few hardcore grind sessions. However, it is when the RNG has chosen to work against players that achievements like “Exotique” can become incredibly difficult.

Hard to Get Destiny 2 Forsaken Achievements

Though Bungie has put a solid effort into making sure that theRNG for events, activities, and rewardsfavor the player more, it is still something that is left up to chance until the tables turn for the individual players that are hunting. This can make the “Exotique” achievement a doozy as Guardians become fixated on how to get it. It is also important to remember that there are ten different possible achievements to get from the Forsaken expansion inDestiny2,with a few of them now heavily reliant on a player’s luck.

These aspects of chance in the Forsaken expansion’s achievements will also take a toll on players who wish to make a try at the Darkness Falls achievement. Since therework ofDestiny 2’sNightfall playlists, there’s been less of a chance of a Nightfall’s specific boss being one of the Taken. Before players had the Nightfall playlist which sported three different choices, but now only the Nightfall: The Ordeal playlist is available.

Over the past few weeks, Nightfalls have not seen any of the Taken appear as bosses as the Nightfall: The Ordeal strikes have had a heavy emphasis on the Earth’s Cosmodrome and European Dead Zone locations rather than Forsaken expansion content. Withthe current Nightfall as the Arms Dealer strikeonce again, for the week of March 23rd, this achievement will not be obtainable.

Vaulting Can Still Benefit the Game

Despite these obstacles, the decision tovault some ofDestiny 2’scontentand work towards a clearer story atmosphere is not necessarily a bad choice. With the massive story that Bungie has told so far, it is still important that new and returning players are not confused about where in the narrative they are. What quests players decide to do first and where they focus their time can make some wonder how acharacter like Crow or Uldren Sovcurrently stands.

While the content may not be gone forever and future opportunities to snag the achievements associated with the Forsaken expansion may still present themselves, it will still be a nail-biting experience. The Light and Darkness saga will be approaching an end, content wise, over the next couple of years. Players who want these achievements will most likely also want to playupcomingDestiny 2expansions and seasons as well, putting their goals in conflict. The choice to vault the content may put these Guardians in a predicament of choice in the future and ultimately hinder the achievement hunters’ ability to get 100 percent ofDestiny 2’s achievements.

Destiny 2is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
