Summary

It doesn’t always happen that aDestiny 2release delivers on every promise, but Season of the Wish will likely go down not only as the last season ever for the game, but also the one with the best combination of Dungeon and seasonal activity ever.Season of the Wish’s new Dungeon, Warlord’s Ruin, initially saw rumors of it being tied to SIVA - a narrative thread that Bungie seems unlikely to ever reprise. Instead, players got an activity that is themed around the Scorn and the Ahamkara, and it has ties to the Fallen House of Kings from the lore. Combined with the seasonal Coil activity,Destiny 2players are in for a treat, but Season of the Wish still has a massive issue that’s become hard not to notice.

Seasonal activities inDestiny 2are often far from great because of some kind of issue that prevents them from going above and beyond player expectations. Season of the Wish features two activities in the form of Riven’s Lair and The Coil, with the former essentially being a shorter version of the latter, thus providing a bit less loot for a less complex and time-consuming run. The Coil is probably one of the best seasonal activities ever, if not the best overall, but even that cannot overshadow a big problem withDestiny 2right now.

Destiny 2’s Season of the Wish is Great, But it Has a Loot Problem

Destiny 2’s Power Creep and Loot Problems Explained

It probably doesn’t come as a surprise thatDestiny 2has a power creep issuewith its loot, as weapon crafting in The Witch Queen and the removal of Orb of Power generation from weapons both forced Bungie to make each gun more and more interesting than what came before. The problem is that there’s still a ceiling for what Bungie can or is willing to do with loot, and some guns straight-up become some of the best ever on launch, and there’s no going back.

Destiny 2’s Apex Predator from Last Wishimmediately became a top DPS pick as soon as Bungie reworked the loot pool for the Raid with new and updated perks, and there’s yet to be a true competitor since for many builds. What follows is that someDestiny 2loot can’t really exceed a certain threshold for its power, and that’s why some great weapons end up having a mediocre selection of perks in one column or a subpar Origin Trait. This is the case for many guns in Season of the Wish and from the Warlord’s Ruin Dungeon.

Destiny 2’s The Coil and Warlord’s Ruin Fall Short on Loot

While The Coil and Warlord’s Ruin are among the best content ever produced forDestiny 2in their respective departments, they do come short in terms of loot. The weapons obtained within either activity are simply not the greatest, and since that power creep problem has never gone away, there are much better options in both cases. Some weapons from Season of the Wish or Warlord’s Ruin could find niche uses, even in good meta builds, but on a surface level, none of them is ground-breaking or the so-called “best in slot.”

Bungie even introduced rocket sidearms with Warlord’s Ruin, and while the archetype can be fun and even rewarding in terms of gameplay and buildcrafting, especially with the sidearm rolling with Voltshot for additional add-clearing potential, this gun family is already not the best per se.Destiny 2’s Season of the Wishis by far one of the best ever, and it’s just one week in, but it further highlights the game’s problem with loot and how far it can really go with future additions. The Coil and Warlord’s Ruin offer incredible gameplay value, but they may fall flat soon considering the mostly subpar nature of their respective loot tables, and that’s sad.
