The new subclass known as Strand has brought a list of new abilities forDestiny 2fans to toy with sinceLightfall’s launch, but an odd bug affecting a Hunter Strand ability has shown the power turning on its wielders. The second Darkness subclass to become available to Guardians inDestiny 2, Strand opens up tons of new ways to play via powerful combat techniques and the ability to swing across the battlefield with grapple.
Similarly to the game’s other subclasses, Strand offers different abilities for each class in the game. With an expansive roster of available Strand aspects and fragments that can be unlocked in any order upon completingthecampaign forDestiny 2: Lightfall, players are able to customize their use of Strand and take advantage of several different Strand-specific capabilities such as suspension, tangles, threadlings, and more. The latest subclass has seen a few minor balance tweaks since its arrival in early March, but it has largely remained in a good spot within the game’s ability sandbox so far.

That said, the Hunter’s Threaded Spike melee ability has stuck out to fans due to its tricky “catching” mechanic, which allows players to shorten the ability’s cooldown if performed correctly. This ability just recently received some adjustments, and some fans have already shared clips of the projectile somehow killing them while it’s returning. A player known as ChampionMan357 shared their own experience of this in a post on the site, which shows their Threaded Spike bouncing off a Cabal boss and instantly killing them upon impact. While this is far from thestrangest bug recently encountered inDestiny 2, many fans have nonetheless struggled to understand what caused this to happen in the first place.
Destiny 2’s sandbox team recently detailed some changesto many abilities in the game for the sake of balancing, with the Threaded Spike melee in particular receiving several adjustments to compensate for the widespread complaints associated with it since the arrival of Strand. These changes involve a blanket increase to damage against PvE enemies by roughly 55%, while also adjusting the projectile’s travel speed and range to make it easier for players to catch. Slightly reworked catching mechanics make it more rewarding for players looking to use the ability more frequently, and the additional capability of Phalanx shield piercing makes the ability more effective against Cabal forces too.
The current Season of Defiance is the game’s first season following the release ofLightfall, though it has represented aparticularly rough period forDestiny 2. Frequent server outages and emergency hotfixes have become a common sight for players over the past month, and while Bungie have certainly been working to keep ahead of the issues and bugs, it’s safe to say that fans are hoping for a smoother ride through the game’s upcoming Season of the Deep.
Destiny 2is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
