Summary

Fans ofDestiny 2can now get their hands on some awesome new exotic class items which can grant multiple perks, though one major oversight with these new armor pieces has disappointed many players who like to put fashion before anything else. The three exotic class items have been subject to great anticipation among the community since they were first revealed prior to the release ofDestiny 2’s Final Shape expansion, though these exotics have already stirred up some controversy for several different reasons.

Finally made available to Guardians on June 11 alongsidethe launch ofDestiny 2’s Episode: Echoes, players will first need to complete Overthrow events in The Landing, The Blooming, and The Impasse locations in the Pale Heart to get started on their way to unlocking their exotic class item. Upon the full completion of each Overthrow, players will subsequently need to seek out and destroy a “Secret Keeper of The Witch Queen” in each area. Once that’s done, players can travel to The Refraction and battle two Subjugators in different spots to unlock the secret exotic mission, Dual Destiny. Fans will need to grab a friend before heading into this mission though, as it can’t be completed with any more or any less than two players.

The successful completion of this mechanic-heavy mission yields the guaranteed drop of an exotic class item with two randomly-selected exotic perks. While these new gear pieces are nothing short of game-changing when it comes tobuildcrafting inDestiny 2, fans quickly learned that there’s a cost to having this extra power: the exotic class items themselves can’t be transmogged. This means that players cannot apply any ornaments to them aside from the exotic ornaments that can be purchased with silver from the shop. One of the first posts to spark discussion about this online came from a fan known as fullstackcoffee, with many fans similarly taking to social media to voice their frustrations.

How Destiny 2’s Exotic Class Items Impact Guardian Fashion

One of the most prominent complaints is that many Guardians will look extremely similar due tohow popular these exotic class items inDestiny 2are, but there’s another, even more widely-shared consensus, that some of these exotic class items just aren’t that nice to look at. While the exotic bond for Warlocks is relatively small and doesn’t interfere too much with an outfit as a whole, the exotic Titan mark and Hunter cloak are much harder to miss, and don’t synergize well with most outfits in terms of appearance.

Looks aside, these farmable exotic class items have around 60 different potential perk combinations, meaning that Guardians may need to spend quite a lot of time grinding to get the exact roll they want. Those not prepared to replay the exotic mission can luckily receive an exotic class item as a rare world drop from chests inDestiny 2’s Pale Heart destination, though these items would be made perfect if players could modify and transmog their appearances like they can with other class items.
