Fans are celebrating EA’s Motive Studios and their incredible attention to detail in Isaac’s suit for its recently released remake ofDead Space. With some genuinely remarkable fidelity across all aspects ofDead Space, the minutia of environmental effects on textures stand out for their subtle yet significant impact.
TheDead Spaceremake arrived on January 27 to an overwhelmingly glowing reception, lauded not only as a faithful recreation of Visceral Studio’s cult-hit original, but also as a title that elevates its source material through positive, impactful changes. Of course, the graphical face-lift takes center stage, utilizing ray tracing and DLSS for a beautifully immersive experience. Dismembering hulking alien thralls in dimly lit corridors looks and feels great, as Motive Studios fine-tuned the movement and combat systemsas well. While the story remains largely unchanged, the shift from a silent protagonist to avoice acted Isaac inDead Spaceadds a smart personal touch and sense of pathos for the game’s main character.

Reddit user Joejackson6521 shared their discovery of a subtle detail in Isaac’s suit inDead Space. During certain gameplay segments, Isaac must traverse outside the air-locked corridors of the USG Ishimura, and into the frigid vacuum of space. Impressively, Motive Studios accounted for the plummeting temperature, coating Isaac’s suit with a layer of frost for those gameplay segments, which slowly melts away when he arrives back into the air-locked, heated parts of the ship. This, in addition to the realistic blood and viscera spatter patterns on the suit, shows what loving attention todetail Motive Studios strived for in itsDead Spaceremake.
Isaac’s Standard Engineer RIG inDead Spacestands as one of the most iconic uniforms in all of survival horror. While the gameplay loop ofDead Spaceincludes eventually ditching the default suit for upgrades through the course of the game, the initial ribbed metallic outfit has a timeless design, and Motive Studios has done it and the rest ofDead Space’siconography justice. From the intelligent and informative design of player health and ability charges on the back of the suit to the clever video pop-outs from Isaac’s HUD in his helmet, it is hard to find any fault in its design.
Now that theDead Spaceremake is a bona fide hit, fans are already anxiously clamoring forMotive Studios to giveDead Space 2the same treatment. With such care imbued in even the most minute aspects of the game, it seems like EA has put theDead Spacefranchise into the right hands going forward.
Dead Spaceis available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
