BecauseDead Spacegives players an abundance of exciting weapons it can be easy to forget about the remake’s overpowered Kinesis and Stasis modules.Dead Space’s Plasma Cutteris really the only weapon players need to have equipped at all times, and as long as players have a bunch of plasma energy backups they will be able to cut down any necromorph in their path. That said, the Ripper, Pulse Rifle, Flamethrower, and others all have great default and alt-fire uses, and all the ammunition players receive can encourage players to only fire weapons.

Kinesis was not an offensive tool in the originalDead Space, and therefore players may forget to use it in Motive’s remake as a result. In the beginning of the game, Stasis is a convenient way to distance necromorphs from the player or pause them momentarily to get cleaner hits on their limbs. Like Kinesis, Stasis becomes more powerful the more thatplayers slot power node bench upgrades into their RIG, but there is a way to upgrade it and make it another one of theDead Spaceremake’s most overpowered tools. The Prototype Stasis Module is a little out of the way, but worth the effort to retrieve it.

Players enjoying thenew side quest content in Motive’sDead Spaceshould be sure to check out the quest titled ‘Premeditated Malpractice’ if they want this buff. The Prototype Stasis Module is a reward lying about at the end of the quest and is therefore technically missable, but is not triggered until a little bit later in the game and also requires some backtracking to fulfill.

This reward alone is worth the effort, but side quest content is also satisfying because it allows Motive to embellish more of the USG Ishimura. Backtracking may sound like a tedious and undesirable feature in a game, especially one as linear asDead Space, but it actually gives the remake a sense of breathability and exploration that the original did not have. The remake does not have many side quests, but they are extensive and span nearly the whole game to complete.

This lets players complete the linear, narrative-driven part of a particular section before returning later on to fully explore it andtrack side quests withDead Space’s locator guidance system. Once the Prototype Stasis Module is retrieved, backtracking is made much easier with another upgrade for players to wield.

The Prototype Stasis Moduleessentially buffs Stasis’ ability to halt enemies in their tracks, rendering them completely immobile rather than suspending them in slow-motion animation, and it actually damages enemies as well. Similar to any of the player’s weapons, this upgrade is foundational.

Upgrade parts are needed for weapons to be enhanced further at any respective bench, but the Prototype Stasis Module is its own reward and significantly improves the Stasis module’s capabilities. Players will then find it much easier to flee encounters if they wish, but necromorphs can also now take electrical damage while incapacitated and players may want to exploit that by grouping a mob together and spamming shots into their appendages altogether. Moreover, the hunter and brute necromorphs can become trivial once players can stop them in their tracks.

Dead Spaceis often rewarding in this way, where exploration and completion of side quests leads to optional loot or lore that players can indulge in on subsequent New Game Plus playthroughs. The Prototype Stasis Module can be paramount in this regard, particularly when up against the New Game Plus mode’s phantom necromorphs.

Dead Spaceis available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
