Lies of Precently showed off some gameplay that put a spotlight on the game’s setting and combat systems. Considering that the new title is a Soulslike, the combat and setting ofLies of Pseem to fit perfectly into the genre. Though most fans of the newest game from publisherNEOWIZwill immediately draw comparisons betweenLies of PandBloodborne, there is one feature inLies of Pthat looks to be more similar to another popular FromSoftware game:Sekiro: Shadows Dies Twice.
Based onthe new trailer forLies of P, it seems as though the protagonist fights with not only a variety of different melee weapons but also a series of mechanical arms that can be interchanged to better suit the player’s combat needs. These mechanical arms, dubbed Legion Arms, appears to be quite similar to Wolf’s Prosthetic Arm inSekiro: Shadows Die Twice. It seems thatLies of Pmay be adopting features from multiple different FromSoftware titles to create its own unique Soulslike game.

What are Pinocchio’s Legion Arms?
Lies of Pis retelling the age-old story of Pinocchiobut with a dark-fantasy twist. To coincide with the original story, it appears that the version of Pinocchio that acts as the protagonist inLies of Pis a type of humanoid living doll, whose goal is to find Geppetto. This iteration of Pinocchio looks and acts human aside from his left arm, which has been replaced with a robotic prosthetic.
Pinocchio is able to use this robotic Legion Arm to aid him in combat, and it appears that there are multiple different types of Legion Arms with a variety of different abilities. The gameplay ofLies of Pshowed off a few different arms, some with elemental effects such as the ability to cast fire or electricity, and others with more physical powers like a powerful hand cannon or whip-like puppet string. Players will be able to interchange Legion Arms at the game’s rest points, called Stargazers, and each individual Legion Arms seems to be upgradeable to some extent, likely increasing their effectiveness in battle and providing new abilities.

How the Legion Arms Compare to Sekiro’s Prosthetic Arms
The immediate comparison between the Legion Arms and Prosthetic Arms is their utility in battle. Both Pinocchio and Wolf get an advantage over their opponents through the special set of attacks provided to them by their respective mechanical arms. Even some of the abilities of each arm seem similar, as Wolf is able to blast enemies with fire via theFlame Vent Prosthetic Tooland Pinocchio can perform similar fire-based attacks with his Flamberge Legion Arm. Each arm’s abilities are also restricted to a limited in-game resource, keeping them from being over-used or exploited during combat.
Additionally, Pinocchio and Wolf also use their arms to aid them in traversing the environment. Wolf is able to use his Prosthetic Arm as a grappling hook that helps him get to otherwise unreachable areas and Pinocchio uses his mechanical arm to quickly slide down ladders and rip open doors and safes. AlthoughWolf’s grapple abilityand Pinocchio’s Puppet String Legion Arm do seem to have similar functions in combat, as the former also occasionally allows Wolf to grapple to enemies and briefly stun them; it is unclear if Pinocchio’s grapple is also used for traversal.
The notable difference between the two arms seems to be the interchangeability and ease of use. Based on the gameplay ofLies of P, it seems that players are only able to equip one Legion Arm at a time and each arm’s use is quickly exhausted. Meanwhile,Wolf’s Prosthetic Armallows the player to quickly swap between different tools and equip multiple different tools that can be immediately changed mid-combat.
Lies of P’s Soulslike fighting styleis likely going to be slower thanSekiro’s, which would explain why players may not need to swap Legion Arms at a moment’s notice, and each Legion Arm may be considerably more powerful than the Prosthetic Tool and should therefore be used more sparingly. Fans will not know exactly how similar the Legion Arms are to the Prosthetic Arm untilLies of Pis released, but based on the gameplay, it seems thatLies of Pis creating a unique blend of Soulsborne combat mechanics.
