Dragon’s Dogmais an open-world action RPG published by Capcom. The player takes on the role of an Arisen, a customizable character, as they set out on a quest to defeat the dragon Grigori. Years before theMonster Hunterseries gave fans a proper open world,Dragon’s Dogmawas Capcom’s first attempt at providing a wider gaming space for players to explore. For its efforts,Dragon’s Dogmawas met with a positive reception from both critics and the wider audience, with many stillpraisingDragon’s Dogmaas it reaches its 10 year anniversary.
While May 22 was the official 10th anniversary ofDragon’s Dogma’srelease, Capcom has designated the entire month of May as a celebration of 10 years since the game’s creation. “We are forever grateful for your support throughout the years,” reads the website’s homepage, “and hope you will join us in this momentous celebration ofDragon’s Dogma!” There isn’t much information on what the momentous celebration will include, but fans are anticipating apotential announcement ofDragon’s Dogma 2. Considering that the first game came out nearly ten years ago and the Summer Game Fest to replace this year’s E3 is on the way, it is possible that Capcom is gearing up for a sequelannouncement.
Other fans were less hopeful about the possibility of aDragon’s Dogmasequel. While they believed an announcement was on the way thanks to the website, they feel that Capcom will simply re-release a version ofDragon’s Dogmaon newer consoles. The game has gone through a fair amount of re-releases. Back in 2013,Dragon’s DogmareleasedDragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, an enhanced version of the original game that was later ported to PS4, Xbox One, and PC in 2016. PC specifically allowed for the mostchanges to the originalDragon’s Dogmaformula thanks to the modding capability of the platform.
Whether there will be an announcement forDragon’s Dogma 2is currently unknown. However, it is likely that Capcom will reveal something at this year’s Summer Game Fest to match the showings of Xbox, Bethesda, and Sony. No matter the result,Dragon’s Dogmawill remain a well-loved game that helped begin the trend of difficult fantasygames similar toDark SoulsandElden Ring.
