With theCall Of Dutyfranchise maintaining its mass popularity in the first-person-shooters genre, many of its fans hold high expectations with each new entry. Almost a year after the release ofVanguard, the title still contains levels of criticism across all of its features with many players still unsatisfied withSledgehammer Gamesand their development of the game.

Some were even left revisiting previous releases such asModern Warfare(2019), and Cold War, awaiting any updates regarding a new title or drastic change to Vanguard. As the release of Infinity Ward’sModern Warfare 2is on the horizon, the anticipation continues to rise in hopes of a new entry that can satisfy fansuntil a new game is announced, whilst ensuring previous faults are not repeated.

7Remove Quick Time To Kill

Many players who are familiar withVanguardwill be aware of Sledgehammer Games' decision to implement a fast time for players to neutralize opponents. This may be favorable to some, but this removes the ability for players to identify where they are being shot from, which has led to a lot of frustration.

Not only does this stop players from getting into cover quickly, but it also alleviates the tactical nature of the gameplay and shortens shootouts to a drastic extent. To avoid this, Infinity Ward must increase the time to kill and open opportunities for more engaging gun battles forplayers in multiplayer.

6Too Many Big Maps

Despite the option for players to play in 10v10 or 12v12 via combat pacing and playlist options and adjust to how they prefer to play, some ofVanguard’s maps have received negative feedback regarding their sizes.

The problems for many players vary from the small player count due to other players leaving mid-game, whilst others simply prefer more maps that engage in closer combat. IfModern Warfare 2can include a greater number of maps or more maps with a medium size, this would be highly beneficial.

5Spawn Trap

Given the presence of the smaller-sized maps such as “Das Haus” and “Shipment”, some occurrences of an instant death after spawning are expected as players understand. Regardless, one of the biggest complaintsVanguardhas received is the issue with the constant spawn traps, which are also present withinbigger-sized maps.

This can very much lead to a break in immersion for players, whilst leading to an unfair K/D ratio in scoreboards. Avoiding this completely would be next to impossible, but improving on this factor to the point where it does not happen so often, would push the new title to a playable standard for fans.

4Voting For MVP

One ofVanguard’s innovations in the aftermath of each session alongsideCall Of Duty’s regular “play of the game” and “final kill” segments, is the new vote for the “Team MVP”. Many fans feel that the inclusion of these votes serves no purpose, showcasing a similar feeling toBattlefield 2042’send-of-match reviewwhich contained dialogue referred to as out of place.

To provide a more simple, quick, and faster navigation system along with a potential improvement to the matchmaking, fans would be very appreciative to see the removal of this addition inModern Warfare 2.

Spawn Trap

3Lack Of Map Rotation

Based on previous entries ofCall Of Dutytitles such as one of the more recent ones inCold War, contained a voting system where players had the ability to vote in lobbies as to which map they preferred to play in. This was omitted from bothVanguardandModern Warfare 2’spredecessor in 2019, as each lobby has a set map without choice.

If Infinity Ward’s goal also entails making their new title much more user-friendly and adding allowing players to experience their plethora of maps as much as they want to, this would be one of the more pivotal factors to consider in the lead-up to the game’s release in October.

2Game Breaking Bugs

At its release,Vanguardwas infamous for its gameplay which was riddled with bugs in multiple different areas with some still not fixed. Ranging from audio bugs to weapon glitches, Sledgehammer Games' developers have faced a barrage of backlash.

Many fans will hope to seeModern Warfare 2take a different path and contain a more stable standard at release and destroy the need for constant patches and tweaks in the aftermath. This would ultimately result in the good maintenance of the game’s player count and provide afull-functioning FPS gamemany fans have been waiting for.

1SBMM

If there is one thing fans certainly do not wish to see in the upcoming entry to the franchise, it would be skill-based matchmaking. A large majority of recent Call Of Duty titles have adopted this system along with other FPS titles such asApex Legends, which some fans see as a punishment as a result of their improvement in gameplay.

This is a deal-breaker for many players, as most strongly oppose this addition as it often leads to much more difficult lobbies for players without the option to switch to a less competitive one. With rumors ofModern Warfare 2’s change to the SBMM system, fans will be awaiting clarification from Activision and Infinity Ward on the matter, and whether the system will remain or be removed.
